MANILA — Pinoy Reads Pinoy Books and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts will hold a literary walking tour for National Artist for Literature Nick Joaquin in Intramuros, Manila on May 3.

PRPB co-founder Jayson Vega designed the tour to honor the lasting legacy of Joaquin and his works.

“This tour traces locations within the Walled City that influenced the life of the beloved National Artist for Literature, and sparked inspiration in his famous stories and literary works,” PRPB said in a post.

PRPB also emphasized that Joaquin's stories and essays remain relevant today.

Joaquin, who also wrote as Quijano de Manila, is known for his literary works, "The Woman Who Had Two Novels", "Manila, My Manila: A History for the Young", and "The Portrait of the Artist as a Filipino" which inspired the stage and screen adaptations of "Ang Larawan".

“Nick Joaquin is the shining beacon on the potential of Filipino imagination and creative work showing us we can stand side by side with some of the greatest writers in the world,” PRPB told ABS-CBN News.

Throughout National Literature Month in April, NCCA has been pushing the celebration of different literary artists and works highlighting Filipino culture, craft, and creativity.

The May 3 event is free of charge and is based on a first come, first served registration.

Organizers said they may offer the walking tour again in the future.
