MANILA -- Proud residents of Bulacan came together as a community to give the Philippines' bet in Miss Universe 2024, Chelsea Manalo, a homecoming parade fit for a queen on Saturday morning.

Manalo rode an elegantly decorated float for her victory parade that took off at the Capitol Compound and ended at the Malolos-Guiguinto Boundary Arch.

"We wanted her to look like a queen. We put Kawayan, items that showcase the province. We also used earth colors because Bulakenya, para very native sa Bulacan ang colors," said Anthony Ramos, the designer of the float.

Manalo was moved to tears by the support she received from the residents of Bulacan, and promised to uplift the province.

"On my way here, it was very emotional. I started here, I started dreaming here in my home town. It is not easy but if you pursue with all your might. Just keep people who are close to you," she said. "Always keep your faith, always believe in yourself.

Manalo was welcomed at the Capitol Building in Bulacan by governor Daniel Fernando and Vice Governor Alex Castro.

The Reyna La Bulakenya was also presented with unique gifts made by locals such as a woven flower arrangement made of coconut leaves called puni.

"We are trying to revive the art of Puni. It is a Bulacan art. It became obsolete. We wanted to make it modern," said Jhoanna Garcia, owner of Punique PH.

Elma Baltazar, who taught Manalo street dance in high school, said the beauty queen was "one of the best students."

Manalo, who hails from Bulacan, won the MUPH 2024 crown last month. She will represent the country in the next Miss Universe pageant.
