MANILA -- In celebration of Pride Month, Duty Free Fiestamall in Paranaque opened the “Art of Being: Discovering LGBTQIA+ Artists in Celebration of Pride Month” exhibit on Wednesday, June 12.

The exhibit showcases the work of LGBTQIA+ artists and designers, emphasizing diversity and creativity within the community.

Event organizer Danny Jacinto explained the motivation behind the exhibit was in coordination with Duty Free to highlight and support LGBTQIA+ artists, adding that this is Duty Free’s first time hosting such an exhibit, marking their support in celebrating Pride Month.

Among the featured artworks is a crochet piece by Artist Denver Garza from Bacoor, Cavite.

“Yung artwork ko, it’s a crochet piece. It actually resembles a blueprint of a coffee shop I frequent because it’s a safe space for me as a queer person and it’s also, para siyang ano being comforted by familiar places that’s why ist a very squishy piece of crochet work,” Garza shared.

Garza also emphasized the importance of the exhibit saying, “It’s very important to educate people and also for them to be familiar with the diversity of our artistic practices, mediums na we as artists, we explore and hina-highlight din namin yung ganung practices.”

Expressing his enthusiasm, Garza added, “I'm very happy to be included, to be part of the show. As a queer person, I’m happy na this is a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ artists, the diversity of our own practices. We’re happy to be part of the celebration.”

Jacinto extended an invitation to the public: “I would like to invite everybody to visit the Duty Free and shop at Duty Free and at the same time enjoy the exhibit that they mounted here for the pride month.”

The exhibit will run until June 30, offering a platform for the community to appreciate and support LGBTQIA+ artists.
