For Filipino Heritage Month in Canada this June, two Filipino organizations will host an immersive outdoor event in Toronto.

At the recent influencer launch, organizers introduced the event titled "Tayo," which means "us" or "we" in Filipino, happening from June 15 to 16.

Rosary Escaño, organizer and CEO of KRE8 Corporation, said “Tayo” is a platform where attendees will enjoy a unique experience of Filipino culture.

"It represents us," she said. "It's about our community. But it's also a celebration of who we are alongside Canadians, people from different backgrounds. It's for them to experience our culture through food, music, and various activities."

The event holds special significance as it marks the first time that a Filipino gathering will be held at the iconic Mel Lastman Square in Toronto.

Janet Lim, organizer and founder of "Kainan Na," revealed that renowned Filipino chefs will be showcasing their best specialties.

While enjoying their food, guests can also learn about the origins of the food and share stories behind the recipes.

There will also be a Kapampangan buffet, as well as a unique dining experience called "Kamayan," similar to a boodle fight, but with a twist of Do-It-Yourself.

The event will also feature a "panaderia," where Filipino-Canadian bakers showcase a variety of freshly baked goods.

And for the first time, organizers will introduce the "Harana" all-out ube high tea.

"There's an outdoor café where they are serenaded with beautiful Harana music," said Escaño. "But. at the same time, they get to savor the food. They are not in a rush."

To add to the excitement, there will be a culinary competition, which will seek to incorporate Filipino ingredients into Western or Canadian cuisine.
