BULACAN — Couples hoping to conceive or seeking good fortune flock to Obando in Bulacan province each year to dance in the three-day "Fertility Dance Festival" that the town is known for.

Joining the traditional dance this year are couple 32-year-old Daisy Dene Gorgonia and 33-year-old Gilbert Gorgonia, who have yet to get pregnant in almost two years of marriage.

The couple flew all the way to Obando from Samar in hopes of having their prayers answered.

They say this is their first time to join the fertility dance rites.

"Sa Facebook ko lang po siya nalaman and iyong mga katrabaho ko nagsabi na masayaw kami sa Obando kasi nagpaplano na kami magka-anak,” says Daisy.

She added, "Naniniwala kami kasi may mga testimony yung iba na nagkaka-baby po sila if ever maniwala lang po kayo. Every day as in every day, walang araw at lagi akong nagpe-pray na sana po ipagkaloob na sa amin ito ni God."

Meanwhile, Aica Fresnido and Rowell Samia, both 38 and froim nearby Calumpit town, have been participating in the tradition for two straight years. They have been together for nine years but have yet to get pregnant.

Asked why they continue to believe in the promise of the Obando fertility dance, Rowell said that he himself is a product of the ritual.

"Naniniwala po ako kasi yung magulang ko po sumayaw po dito at kami po yung lumabas. May kakambal po ako. Kaya naniniwala po talaga ako kasi nung sumayawa sila dito, binayayaan sila ng kambal."

Aica added, "Yung iba nabiyayayaan na. Yung iba siyempre iba-iba yung hiling nila — sa may sakit, yung iba mas gusto pangkabuhayan."
