Megan Young took to social media on Monday to apologize after getting flak for fixing a candidate's hair on the Miss World stage.

The Filipina beauty queen was tapped to co-host the 71st edition of the pageant in India over the weekend. During the question and answer round, she was seen trying to fix the hair of Botswana's Lesego Chombo -- a move that drew negative reactions online.

In a post on her Facebook page, Young explained that she only "wanted to offer a helping hand," but acknowledged that she "failed to oversee the bigger picture."

"This could have caused distress during that moment and I have been made aware that culturally, this is acceptable," she said. "We have spoken privately last night at the hotel and I have apologized to Lesego in private."

"To those who witnessed the incident, I also want to apologize for any discomfort or confusion my actions may have caused. It was a thoughtless and disrespectful act, and I take full responsibility for it," she added.

"I assure you that it was not my intention to invade personal space or make anyone feel uncomfortable. I deeply regret my actions and will strive to be more mindful and respectful in the future."

Krystyna Pyszkova of Czech Republic was crowned as 71st Miss World. Botswana's Chombo is one of the pageant's runners-up, along with Yasmina Zeytoun of Lebanon and Ache Abrahams of Trinidad and Tobago.

The Philippines' Gwendolyne Fourniol, meanwhile, failed to make it to the Top 40.

Young remains the sole Miss World titleholder from the country. After winning the crown for the Philippines in 2013, she was tapped to co-host multiple editions of the international pageant.
