Love is in the air at the Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) in Tarlac, with the first day of the festival taking off with a wedding.

Long-time German couple Wolf and Susan Kadach exchanged their vows on board a hot air balloon shaped like a monastery on Friday morning.

“It has been a long time ago I have known you and it will come to a lucky end with our wedding today, here at the wonderful stadium. I love you,” Wolf said.

“I love you, Wolf. My message is the same,” Susan enthused before diving in for a kiss.

The newlyweds shared they had been together since 1976.

“This is the first time we will marry each other. But we had both been married before. My father did not like him,” the bride teased.

“But now we are best friends,” he added.

The hot air balloon enthusiasts are regulars at the PIHABF, with Wolf as the pilot and Susan as the chase crew.

“I am a retired teacher, I am now the crew,” Susan explained.

“I had been flying for 27 years. She is for the meal, the guest, the drinking, for all the fun,” Wolf joked.

According to the couple, there is no other place they would have rather said their “I do’s.”

“I proposed many years ago. Last year, we spoke with Captain Joy Roa, the event director. And he said, why not do it here?” Wolf recalled.

“It is nice here [in the Philippines]. Nice people, nice food, nice weather. In Germany it is cold. We like ballooning, it is the [perfect] place to marry,” Susan explained.
