MANILA -- Philanthropist Sam Verzosa, also the director for charities of Miss Universe Philippines, says he will continue to support the Smile Train Foundation even after the Miss Universe Organization cut its ties with the charity last month.

This was after Verzosa and his girlfriend Rhian Ramos participated in the New York Marathon and raised funds for the world's largest cleft charity foundation.

During a charity event in Manila, Verzosa clarified that as the director of Miss Universe Philippines for charity, he will continue to support the cleft charity foundation.

"Yes, tuloy pa rin po," he said to the press.

Verzosa stated that in addition to the Smile Train Foundation, Miss Universe Philippines also supports other non-profit organizations.

"Hindi naman talaga siya partnership, Miss Universe is a charity also that helps different charities. I'm the director for charities of the Miss Universe Philippines so, iba iba naman ang tinutulungan natin. Before, tinulungan natin ang smile train, love yourself, true focus. Iba iba naman kasi ang tinutulungan ng Miss Universe charity hindi lang siya naka kahon sa isang organization lang," he explained.

He also noted that even with the changes in the Miss Universe Organization, Miss Universe Philippines will continue to support various charities which they started.

"Hindi naman ibig sabihin bumitaw rin kami, pero nag-iiba iba lang, tuloy tuloy pa rin as Sam Verzosa po," he added.

Smile Train is a nonprofit organization and charity providing corrective surgery for children with cleft lips and palates. Headquartered in New York City and founded in 1999, the foundation provides free corrective cleft surgery in 87 countries, training local doctors and providing hospital funding for the procedures.

In October, Smile Train Foundation announced that it has ended its nine-year partnership with the Miss Universe Organization.
