MANILA -- Months after opening up about having chronic kidney disease which she blamed on her "gym life," Miss International 2013 Bea Rose Santiago on Wednesday revealed that she "kinda have kidney failure."

According to the American Kidney Fund, kidney failure, also called end-stage renal disease (ESRD), is "the last stage of chronic kidney disease."

In an Instagram post, the former beauty queen shared that she even flew to Tokyo to seek a second opinion on her diagnosis in Manila.

"I was diagnosed months ago, I was in denial and that's why I left the Philippines to get a second opinion in Tokyo and [then] it turned out to be a confirmation," she wrote.

Santiago is currently in Canada with her family and potential donors.

"I will be needing a life-saving transplant. I live because of a machine, my dialysis machine and the doctors and nurses at Home Hemo Dialysis centre in Toronto General," the ex-beauty queen said.

She then encouraged people who "feel weird and off" to get themselves checked for a possible kidney-related disease.

"I am not asking for sympathy, I am asking for awareness... I suffered no symptoms... So please please when you feel weird and off, go get yourself checked," she said.

She assured her followers that she's "unstoppable" and will fight off the disease until she's healed.

"[This] does not mean I'm done. I'm unstoppable and will be healed! God loves me and he keeps showering me with love and blessings from friends and family! I am lucky and I am loved," Santiago said.
