Even Catriona Gray, the reigning Miss Universe who is now considered a Philippine beauty icon, has days when her “insecurities are louder.”

On Instagram on Thursday, the pageant queen bared some of those insecurities as she shared a selfie sans her usual glamorous look.

“This is the skin I wake up in every day. I love playing with makeup and being glam, but I’ve also grown to love the skin I wake up in acne scars, moles and all,” she wrote.

“I too have days where I don’t feel confident, or my insecurities are louder...but that’s okay. Loving yourself as you are is a journey, but it’s a journey worth taking,” Gray added.

Gray, 25, posted the zero-makeup selfie as part of an online challenge, dubbed #AsSheIs. She nominated her fellow beauty queens, Nicole Cordoves and Sandra Lemonon, to take on the challenge as well.

Gray has made no secret of her own struggles with self-confidence, especially as her Miss Universe reign magnified her appearance as a beauty queen.

Notably in July, she spoke up against bodyshaming, after a Thai pageant contestant called her “fat” in a viral Instagram post.

Addressing her followers, Gray said: “If anyone reading this too has been bodyshamed, I know how it feels. I’m sorry you’ve had to experience that. But know that you are more than your appearance. You are a capable, unique and worthy person. And you are never alone.”

“You are so much more than your body! You are you mind and your unique talents and your character and your life experiences and your personality! You are so so much more than the exterior! And people will always remember how you made them feel and not how you looked,” she added.
