MANILA – Manila FAME, the country’s premier lifestyle and design trade event, will no longer have twice-yearly shows starting next year.

This is what Pauline Suaco-Juan, executive director of the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), said during the media preview for Manila FAME’s 70th edition.

She cited their efforts to “move into the future” as the main reason behind the decision.

“Manila FAME lasted for more than 30 years because it was able to ride the waves of change and observe trends and shifts in exporting and trade promotions,” said Suaco-Juan, who is on her second year at the helm of CITEM.

“I’m sure you’ve heard that instead of the twice-yearly shows, CITEM, beginning in 2020, will have a yearly edition and that will happen during October.”

Suaco-Juan said they aim to make Manila FAME “a digital-driven, multi-platform experience,” not giving further details.

“The plans are in the works,” she assured. “It’s a little too early to talk about the digital platform right now, but rest assured we will invite you again for the launch.”

She added: “Our presence in overseas trade fairs will also be more strategic, aiming to remind buyers that the Philippines is a top source of quality products. Our marketing communications initiatives will challenge the notion of on- and off-peak seasons to become available to buyers and exporters at any season.”

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM 70TH MANILA FAME

Meanwhile, Suaco-Juan happily shared that the 70th Manila FAME, which will run from October 17 to 19 at the World Trade Center, will be a bigger show compared to previous editions.

Over 300 home and lifestyle brands will be present at the event, showcasing the best of Filipino craftsmanship and design ingenuity with the theme “Heritage Reimagined.”

“I’m pleased to report that for the first time in a long while, we have exceeded our ‘very important buyer’ quota, which means we have a bigger show this time,” she said.

This month’s Manila FAME features four highlights: Design Commune, a merchandise development program and curated exhibition space under the creative direction of Vince Uy; Artisans Village, which highlights products from Antique and Marawi; Fashion E-Tailers, which showcases both classic and current styles from emergent fashion retailers; and the Eco-Lifestyle Pavilion, which houses goods inspired by the country’s rich environment.
