ILOILO CITY - A love that has been tested by time and trials - this is what Lolo David Sr. and Lola Monica Lapastora have shared in the last 60 years as husband and wife.

Opposites attract, this amazing couple has proven too; Lolo David, 102, despite difficulties in speaking and hearing, is still jovial especially if there are visitors around, while Lola Monica, 94, is the silent type but can still remember details of the past.

They tied the knot at St. Clements Church in June 17, 1956, and were gifted with 6 children.

Lolo David used to work as a cook for a shipping line company during his younger years, and Lola Monica attended to their children while he was away.

Eventually, Lolo David worked for the Fire department, then at the Engineering's Office at the Iloilo City Hall, before serving as Barangay Chieftain of Brgy. San Nicolas Lapaz, Iloilo City for 25 years.

Their children said, Lolo David is a hardworking man and a good provider. When conflict arises between husband and wife, Lolo David wooed Lola Monica.

They never stopped caring for each other, their children said. Lolo David was more showy of his love but Lola Monica knew how to express her worries, especially when her spouse was feeling down.

The family is thankful that Lolo David and Lola Monica remain healthy. They are not taking any maintenance medication, only vitamins. Their usual diet include vegetables and fish, and Lolo David does not have vices.

Recently, Lolo David and Lola Monica have been recognized as the Oldest Living Couple in Iloilo City during the Elderly Filipino Week Celebration.
