MANILA – Award-winning food critic Jonathan Gold has included Filipino restaurant Max’s in his list of favorite Asian fried chicken joints in Los Angeles, California.

In an article in the Los Angeles Times, Gold mentioned Max’s branch in Glendale, noting that its fried chicken is “pretty much the right call.”

“[It’s] Lightly vinegary, beautifully crisp and served with banana ketchup. Don’t forget to get a halo-halo for dessert,” he wrote.

Aside from Max’s, other restaurants mentioned by Gold in his article include Merry’s House of Chicken (Indonesian), Night+Market Song (Thai), OB Bear (Korean), Tokyo Fried Chicken (Japanese) and Dongpo (Chinese).

“Does Los Angeles live by Nashville hot chicken alone? No – as long as there’s a universe of Asian fried chicken too,” he wrote.

Aside from Glendale, Max’s also has branches in Milpitas, Puente Hills, South Francisco and Daly City in California, according to the restaurant’s website.

Other US locations that have Max’s restaurants include Hawaii (Dillingham, Waipahu and Maui), Nevada (Las Vegas) and New Jersey (Jersey City).
