MANILA – Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray was asked to share her thoughts about having a “third restroom” for transgenders on Boy Abunda’s “The Bottomline.”

The beauty queen explained why she is not keen on the idea.

“I do not agree. I believe that if you are a transgender, you identify as that gender. So I feel that we should accept them and allow them to use the restroom in which they identify with, which would either be the men or women’s bathroom,” she said.

“I think this promotes inclusivity and allows them to understand what they want as a transgender and that is to be accepted by us, not just tolerated.”

The question about transgender restrooms was brought up during the Binibining Pilipinas pageant, which named Gray as Miss Universe Philippines.

It was Karen Gallman who got the question from one of the judges. After her controversial answer, she was eventually proclaimed Bb. Pilipinas Intercontinental 2018.

Meanwhile, Gray was also asked by Abunda on how to respond to criticism.

She replied: “I think as beauty queens, we are put in a discerning arena where we are subject to so much feedback, whether it be positive or negative. And I think it’s an individual choice just to listen to the people you trust around you – who you know, who give you constructive feedback, who know your preparation, the whole detail – so that they can accurately give you constructive criticism that can really help you.”

Gray hopes to win the Philippines’ fourth Miss Universe crown after Pia Wurtzbach (2015), Margie Moran (1973), and Gloria Diaz (1969).
