For Canadian Kyle Jennermann, known to many as “Kulas” of the travel blog 'Becoming Filipino,' while travel advisories are necessary, they come too general.

Jennerman recalled, he once tried to convince his parents to visit Mindanao but an advisory from their home country listed the southern "island" as having a high-risk danger and told its citizens to leave the area if they can.

"If I've never been there and I saw an advisory that said 'If you have the chance to leave and you think it's safe to do so, do it,' it's like saying you're in the middle of a war," said Jennerman in an interview with ANC's Headstart Friday.

"I completely agree that travel advisories should exist. I completely agree that people should be aware of what's happening, but why are they generalizing massive areas?"

"Imagine, Mindanao has 24 million people in 27 provinces and you're telling me that every single person there is a horrible person and I should never go there? That's what it means," he added.

Just recently, the Canadian government warned anew against all travel to Mindanao, excluding Davao City, due to the serious threat of terrorist attacks and kidnapping.

It also advised against all travel to the waters off southern Palawan due to the threat of piracy and kidnappings.

The United Kingdom and the United States also issued similar warnings to their citizens.
