MANILA -- The world’s largest bamboo statue of a saint was recently unveiled in Pangasinan. The 50.23-meter high statue of Saint Vincent Ferrer standing in the middle of a prayer park in Barangay Bani in Bayambang, Pangasinan will no doubt be a popular destination this Lenten season.

Around the country, you can find numerous larger-than-life shrines, statues and religious monuments, which are destinations both for prayer and sightseeing.
Here are a few faith tourism destinations you might want to visit this Holy Week.

Kamay ni Hesus in Lucban, Quezon
The Kamay ni Hesus Shrine in Lucban, Quezon is one of the most popular destinations during Holy Week. Pilgrims climb up over 300 steps passing the stations of the cross to the foot of the 50-foot high statue of the Ascending Christ.

Regina RICA in Tanay, Rizal
The Regina RICA (Regina Rosarii Institute for Contemplation in Asia) is another popular and well-maintained pilgrimage site near Manila. The site has a 71-foot high statue of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, set amidst sprawling grounds overlooking the Sierra Madre mountains.

Monasterio de Tarlac in San Jose, Tarlac
One of the iconic landmarks in Tarlac is the 30-foot high concrete statue of the Jesus Christ overlooking a monastery on top of Mount Resurrection, which is part of the Zambales Mountain Range.

Jesus the Savior in Pilgrimage Island in Alaminos, Pangasinan
The 56-foot statue of Jesus the Savior sits atop Pilgrimage Island (formerly Martha Island) at Hundred Islands National Park in Alaminos, Pangasinan. Devotees can climb 263 steps from the beach to venerate the image and enjoy the panoramic view of nearby islets.

Sacred Heart of Jesus in Roxas City, Capiz
The Sacred Heart of Jesus in Roxas City depicts the Risen Christ standing 102-feet tall. Shown with his usual red and white garment, Jesus’ outstretched arms are meant to symbolize the triumph of good over evil and wickedness. The statue is located on top of Tumandok Hill, 360 feet above the sea level which offers a scenic view overlooking Roxas City.

'Heaven on Earth' in San Joaquin, Iloilo
Within Garin Farm in the town of San Joaquin in Southern Iloilo, tourists can find Pilgrimage Hill, which features 456-steps passing through nine major biblical scenes including the Nativity or the Birth of Jesus, Baptism of Christ, the Last Supper and the Agony in the Garden, among others. At the top, is an all-white monument of a cross and angels recreating “Heaven on Earth.”

Caluya Shrine in Sapangdalaga, Misamis Occidental
At the top of the Caluya Shrine in Misamis Occidental, visitors can find a replica of Rio de Janeiro'’s statue of Jesus Christ the Redeemer standing 45 feet high. After climbing 190+ steps, visitors can also enjoy the fresh air and view of the mountains, Caluya Bay and Murcielagos Bay from the top.

Divine Mercy Shrine in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental
The Divine Mercy Shrine is a Catholic monument in El Salvador, Misamis Oriental that features a 50-foot statue of Jesus as the Divine Mercy. Visitors can climb up to the heart of the massive statue through stairs hidden in the two rays emanating out from the center. The statue on Divine Mercy Hills overlooks the Macajalar Bay.
