MANILA – This year’s edition of Madrid Fusion Manila, which was originally slated for April, has been put on hold, according to reports.

Citing government sources, BusinessMirror reported on Thursday that the gastronomy congress will definitely push through, but “the dates are still being negotiated.”

It added that the Department of Tourism’s Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) is supposedly handling the event.

In previous years, Madrid Fusion Manila was organized by DOT’s market development group.

The Singapore-based media company TTGmice, meanwhile, reported that TPB and Foro de Debate, which owns the Madrid Fusion franchise, are concerned about the availability of foreign chefs to participate in this year’s event.

It noted that holding Madrid Fusion Manila 2018 in July or August “is in doubt as well” because it will clash with another major event, the World Food Expo, citing TPB officer-in-charge Maricon Ebron.

For the past three years, Madrid Fusion Manila has brought together the most innovative chefs from all over the world.

The event showcases the shared history the Philippines and Spain through talks and trade exhibitions, to name a few.
