MANILA – Here are some events that you can check out this weekend.

1. PETA’S 'UNDER MY SKIN'

The Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) stages "Under My Skin," written by Rody Vera and directed by Melvin Lee, as its 52nd theater season finale. The play reflects PETA’s advocacy for raising awareness and starting conversations on HIV and AIDS.

"Under My Skin" is an anthology drama about the stories of Filipinos living with HIV, woven together by epidemiologist Dr. Gemma Almonte, who ultimately hopes for a change in public perception and an increase in compassion and understanding.

It stars TV, film and theater artists Cherry Pie Picache, Roselyn Perez, Miguel Almendras, Mike Liwag, Anthony Falcon, and Dylan Talon, together with a roster of PETA artists.

"Under My Skin" will be showing from February 7 to March 22 (Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays/Sundays at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.) at the PETA Theater Center, Eymard Drive, New Manila, Quezon City.

2. REPERTORY PHILIPPINES’ 'STAGE KISS'

Repertory Philippines’ exciting season opener "Stage Kiss" is the perfect play for the month of love and hearts.

When an out-of-work stage actress auditions for the lead in a
forgettable 1930s melodrama, little does she realize she’ll be in
for a whole lot more drama than what she’s signed up for. When her co-star walks in on the first day of rehearsals, it turns out to be her real-life ex.

Written by American playwright Sarah Ruhl, "Stage Kiss" will be brought to life by multi-awarded film and stage director Carlos Siguion-Reyna. Playing the romantic leads She and He are Missy Maramara and Tarek El Tayech. Rounding out the cast are Rep veterans Robbie Guevara and Jamie Wilson, up-and-coming young stars Andres Borromeo, Justine Narciso, and Mica Pineda, as well as pianist Nick Nañgit.

It runs from February 7 to March 1 at Onstage Theater in Greenbelt, Makati.

3. 'ALL ABOUT LOVE'

Two of the country’s premier composers, Louie Ocampo and Fr. Manoling Franciso SJ, come back to stage their successful back-to-back concert last September, “All About Love,” with Martin Nievera, Bituin Escalante, Arman Ferrer, Lian Kyla as main performers.

This will be held on February 9 at the Meralco Theater with a matinee show at 2 p.m. and a gala at 6 p.m.

The repertoire includes Ocampo’s songs like “Say That You Love Me,” “Kahit Isang Saglit,” Ikaw Lang ang Mamahalin,” “I’ll Be There,” and “I Can” by Ocampo, and songs of inspiration and praise by Fr. Francisco like “Tanging Yaman,” “Hindi Kita Malilimutan,” Huwag Kang Mangamba,” “Sa ‘Yo Lamang,” and “I Will Sing Forever.”

Various musical ensembles will support the performances, including the Ateneo Chamber Singers, the Bukas Palad Music Ministry, Hangad Music Ministry, Tinig Barangka Choir, and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra.

4. FQS: KONSYERTONG BAYAN SA IKA-50 TAON

The University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Arts and Culture Festival will commemorate the 50th year of the First Quarter Storm (FQS), one of the events that led to the declaration of Martial Law in the country.

The festival will run from February to April 2020 with the theme “Makita Kang Sakdal Laya” as it shines the spotlight on the importance of activism amid corruption and oppression.

Activities scheduled during the three-month period range from musical performances to art installations and a public forum, including a free concert on February 7 at the AS Steps, Palma Hall, at 6 p.m.

Also at the AS Steps is an art installation 'Nagbabadyang Unos' by artist Toym Imao.

5. KOMIKET 2020

The Filipino Komiks and Art Market will be held this weekend, February 8-9, at Mega Trade Hall 2 of SM Megamall.

6. MAJA SALVADOR MALL SHOW

It’s the time of the year again for the people of Laoag to celebrate the Pamulinawen Festival to commemorate St. William, the province’s patron saint.

Spicing up the celebration is a mall show by Maja Salvador on February 8 at Robinsons Place Ilocos in San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte. Show starts at 4 p.m.

There will be a “Meet and Greet” activity which will be held after the show. The first 100 lucky fans who present a single receipt purchase worth P1,000 cash or charge made on February 8 from any outlet at Robinsons Place Ilocos will be able to participate.
