She used to endear and touch us as the vivacious wide-eyed titular character in the 2015 kiddie serye “Ningning.” At present, Jana Agoncillo has been impressing us with her portrayal of Mirasol Gallego in the well-loved primetime series Lavender Fields.”

And in the latest episode of “Tao Po,” we got to know her a bit more as showbiz correspondent Ganiel Krishnan chatted with her as they unleash their inner child while making slime. Even though she is sixteen years old, the teen actress still enjoys doing things she did as a child, including slime-making, which has become her hobby ever since she was still a kid.

As they began, Ganiel also had Jana talk about her life as a child star, to which the latter imparted, “It was fun kasi everyday was different sa set. So, parang may childhood was so colorful.”

Jana may be only three years old when she made her showbiz debut, yet she was able to immediately charm us with her cuteness, energy, wit, chattiness, and promising acting skills. According to her, she got into acting after her mom heeded the suggestion of her friend to have Jana audition for commercials. So, she did some photoshoot, with her mom sending her profile to talent scout thereafter, and she was fortunately to be accepted.

“From Dreamscape, si Sir Deo (Endrinal), he was the one who discovered me. Pinatawag niya ako and after that napunta ako sa ‘Honesto’ and that started my journey as an actress. Nag-workshops din ako kasi first time ko sa acting e,” the teen star imparted.

Jana lay low during the pandemic to concentrate on her studies, much like some of her other child stars. After attending traditional classes in elementary school, she and her family decided for her to completely switch to homeschooling after virtual classes were implemented when she was in Grade 6. She is currently in high school.

I really enjoyed interacting with my classmates, so I still chose to do face-to-face [classes]. And I really didn’t look at myself as a celebrity. I was just a normal child. Of course, ang treatment sa’yo ng classmates mo ay different,” she said about her experience as a regular student.

Ganiel then veered their conversation to Jana’s portrayal of her Lavender Fields character Mirasol “Mira” Gallego, who is the granddaughter of Aster Fields, played by the one and only Diamond Star Maricel Soriano.

The main focus of my character is that she’s going through something when it comes to her relationship with her mother because her mom is missing. She doesn’t know if her mom is dead or not, so she’s trying to make sense of what happened in the past,” she related.

As a lot of people were rallying for her to play “Mara” in the supposed second remake of the iconic ’90s soap opera “Mara Clara,” Jana couldn’t help but get kilig as she expressed her gratitude and delight. At the same time, she’s also open to take on the role of “Clara” since she has never depicted a kontrabida yet, except for the Kapamilya series Can’t Buy Me Love,” wherein she wowed us with her depiction of the young Bettina (Kaila Estrada). She told Ganiel, “Why not? I wouldn’t say ‘no’ to it.”

Jana also obviously got kilig when asked about having a loveteam as she wasn’t able to hold her laughter and went on to reply that she doesn’t have yet. However, a clip from the “Wedding Booth” episode of ABS-CBN Entertainment online show “Love Bites” that she headlined opposite Lavender Fields castmate and fellow former child star Marc Santiago was being shown onscreen.

Aside from slime-making, Jana’s hobby includes painting, writing, doodling, and swimming. But what delighted Ganiel the most was finding that she reads and studies the Bible, which Jana regards as important and the “foundation of her character.”
