For “It’s Showtime” host Karylle and her husband, Spongecola frontman Yael Yuzon, music is the love language that keeps their marriage harmonious and solid. Join the couple as they relive their love journey in an episode of “Tao Po” hosted by Bernadette Sembrano.

Karylle and Yael proved how sweet their relationship is through a public declaration of love during an episode of It’s Showtime” on February 26. Yael dropped by the program to surprise his wife and express how proud he is of her achievements in the theater world, including her latest musical production “Rama, Hari.”

When Karylle’s co-host, Vhong Navarro, opened the topic about their 10th wedding anniversary, Yael got down on one knee and offered Karylle a ring as he asked her, “Will you marry me again?”

The renewal of marriage vows happened on March 24.Their decade-long journey hasn’t always been smooth sailing. However, they’ve learned that a successful marriage requires forgiveness, give and take, and hope that they can overcome any challenge.

They underscored the importance of having a solid support system, including friends who offer impartial advice. They roll with the punches as a team while celebrating their small wins along the way. As he puts it, “Sometimes you will lose together pero kasama rin ‘yun sa growing together.”

For Karylle, her husband is her source of comfort and confidence, knowing that he always has her back, “When I wake up, the first thing I do is check if his foot is there. And when I feel it, I feel so secure na I’m gonna be able to conquer another day because I have my partner right by side.” In fact, he motivates her to write more songs.

Their love is destiny at its finest. The pair shared during the “Matching Quiz” with Bernadette that they were formally introduced to each other by Gary Valenciano’s wife, Angeli Valenciano, during Eraserhead’s reunion concert. But before that, fate had already brought them together at a children’s party in the 1980s. Karylle came to the party with her mom, Zsa Zsa Padilla. Meanwhile, Yael’s mom also attended the event while still pregnant with him.

They shared that they dated for over three years before tying the knot. The boyfriend-girlfriend stage was chill and fun, as she thought of him as a best friend. For their first date, she brought him to one of her favorite malls growing up and they had unlimited chicken.

Talking about their first kiss, Karylle remembers how it almost didn’t happen, as she nearly left Yael’s car right away. She revealed, “Muntik na sana akong umalis at tumakbo, kaya lang no’ng narinig ko ‘yung Disney song, sabi ko, ‘Baka kakaiba siya. Hindi siya stereotype.’”

Music and Disney are essential to their bond. Yael revealed that his mother, formerly a flight attendant, used to bring him Disney stuff as “pasalubong” from her flights. One memorable gift was a Disneyland map, which made him dream of visiting the park someday. He achieved the dream when he was 8 years old, and it easily became one of the best days of his life.

Karylle and Yael prove that true love transcends societal norms. They don’t limit house chores, hobbies, and even fashion and style to certain gender stereotypes, showing us that marriage thrives when it doesn’t find the need to define roles, and when there’s appreciation and contentment.
