Runway shows, post-pandemic, have taken on a bigger role than just setting the stage for the current fashion ‘mood’ and to an extent, the 90-second zeitgeist. It’s also a barometer of concepts and ideas, a way for retailers to test the waters and recalibrate in terms of what the market wants to hear and identify with. After three years of streaming runway shows, the audience is no longer an accepting bystander, everyone’s a content creator with a phone on hand and a saved emoji as caption, whether you’re watching the show in the flesh, in realtime via livestream, or perhaps asynchronous, through play on demand.
The same goes for this water-inspired spectacle of BOSS, set in the Miami, Florida. Metro.Style was one of the more than 500 guests who saw the show.
Indeed it was a nod to both the past and the future with the different iterations of tailoring. The collection puts us firmly in the ‘90: and early ‘00s for silhouettes, with minimalism all over the colors and cuts. Lots of vests, draped fabrics.
The slouchy silhouettes weren’t limited to the show — guests appeared in oversized suits, with black, white and tan being the most dominant colors even among the audience.

Glazed skin and lips everywhere, slicked back hair.
There’s some very intentional diversity and inclusion in the show: body size, trans representation, lots of POCs, and a PWD. None of it was highlighted in a way that felt too obvious.
As for the audience, it was a feat. For one: Law Roach appearing in the BOSS fashion immediately after announcing his retirement is huge! Curious about his next moves and what he’s planning for himself.
All-star celebrities and athletes such as Naomi Campbell, Pamela Anderson, Law Roach, Khaby Lame, DJ Khaled, Alica Schmidt, Yusra Mardini, Precious Lee, Ibtihaj Muhammad, Ezra Frech and Caleb Williams walked in the liquid-inspired show, as did Jordan Barrett, Naomi Watanabe, Gottmik, and Violet Chachki.
Meanwhile, front row attendees featured a range of talents from across the creative spectrum, including brand favorites Maluma, Demi Lovato, Bella Thorne, Maisa Silva, Charles Melton, Suki Waterhouse, Lucien Laviscount, Rapman, Stefflon Don and Tiffany Haddish. Additional VIP guests included Kano, Jelly Lin, Camila Morrone, Brianne Howey, Felix Mallard, Gavin Casalegno, Sasha Calle, Christine Quinn, Kim Hyun-ah, and Hwang In-Yeop.
As for the role of runway for BOSS, well part of the interactivity is for the audience to continue the immersive experience through the site bossmiamishow.hugoboss.com. Truly, this shows that the interplay between online and offline are just as strong.
