Engines roaring and tires screeching, Coco Martin and Jake Cuenca took the tracks by storm in a heart-pounding drift showdown in recent episodes of "FPJ's Batang Quiapo." And as in the show's previous big action pieces, the drifting sequence was coated with gritty realism, with every detail meticulously planned, every move grounded in real-life precision.

In a reel shared by CCM Film Productions, it was mentioned that the race was filmed on a real drift track in Pampanga. It was full-blown, high-level production, which is only fitting since this marks one of the earliest face-offs between Tanggol (Coco Martin) and Miguelito (Jake Cuenca) after their families joined forces for a business partnership. Tanggol called for a race, Miguelito upped the stakes with a bet, and both gentlemen showed up ready, leading to a high-speed duel that leaves no room for second place.

Coco shared that nerves are always part of the process when filming, as they always aim to top the last big sequence. “Pawis, dugo, at talagang buhay ang itinitaya namin 'pag gumagawa kami ng action scene,” he said.

And this is not just your ordinary drift battle. It's a full-blown action spectacle with a car chase, a helicopter hovering overhead, and a tense pursuit all happening at once. Because while Tanggol is burning rubber on the track, his crew is tailing a foreign drug syndicate on the ground.

The “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” team, as always, made the visuals feel realistic with their meticulous attention to detail, including the tracksuits donned by the characters. No shortcuts here. Stylist Jilla Sara shared that they spent a full week preparing the drifting wardrobe.

"We had a week to prepare for all the research, consultation, kung tama ba ang mga gears," Jilla said. "Lahat ng suot ni Tanggol ay kung ano ang totoong sinusuot kapag nagdi-drift tayo."

For starters, Tanggol's outfit was a fireproof suit to ensure both the actors' safety and added realism. They also had a HANS (Head and Neck Support) device, which is essential in real auto racing as it protects drivers from head and neck injuries during crashes. "At para kahit maalog-alog ka sa loob ng kotse, may protection pa rin," Jilla explained. Coco also wore a balaclava, a racing helmet, gloves, and proper racing shoes.

It also helped that the cast included auto enthusiast, racecar driver, and drifter Raymond Ronquillo, who plays Raul in the series. "For the preparation of racing gears, racing outfits, we consulted Emon of R33 because he's very well known for that and he helped us, like, kailangan talaga may pangalan ni Tanggol as Montenegro," shared Jillia, referring to the embroidered name racers typically have on the lower part of their tracksuits.

Find out how this intense race ends in “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” weeknights on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), TV5, and A2Z.
