Our viewing habits, or our way of consuming content, may have continuously changed over the years, but there are still things that have remained constant. One of them is our penchant for content that isn’t only top-notch and notable when it comes to the technical aspects but also adds value to our lives through the morals they impart to us and ingrain in our hearts and minds.

And we can say that one of the programs that’s able to tick off the aforementioned criteria is “Maalaala Mo Kaya,” which definitely wouldn’t reach three decades and 31 seasons if it didn’t deliver quality entertainment that also brought inspiration and life lessons to its avid viewers through the years. From having to wait for episodes to be broadcast on-air or for our favorite episodes to get special re-runs on television, we can already now watch the show online or revisit our favorite episodes in just a few clicks on our phones or computers via iWantTFC or ABS-CBN Entertainment’s official YouTube Channel.

In light of the highly anticipated return of MMK this year, let us find out what are the program’s top 5 most-watched episodes on ABS-CBN Entertainment YouTube Channel over the years—as of April 25, 2025—are in this special feature!

“Mansanas at Juice” (2017)

Number of views: 14,585,709

Apparently, the “Mansanas at Juice” episode is the most watched among the MMK collection uploaded on ABS-CBN Entertainment YouTube Channel, as it has already garnered more than 14.5 million views ever since it was uploaded in 2021. It follows the story of letter sender Roy Basa, impressively played by Yves Flores, who courageously and astonishingly defied the odds in order for him to fulfill his ultimate aspirations of finishing his studies, becoming a teacher, and giving his family a better life.

His journey towards achieving his dreams was indeed a tough one since, aside from their scarce resources, his father wasn’t supportive of him, as he believed that he should rather spend his time working at the sugarcane plantation with him and earn money to buy their food rather than going to school. However, instead of obeying his father, Roy searched for ways to support his family and his education until he was in college, which included serving as a house helper for his arrogant paternal aunts, who would always insult, belittle, and hurt their family. The full academic scholarship that he received from a prestigious university was indeed a great help, as it brought him closer to his dreams.

Amazingly, amidst the challenges and setbacks that he went through, Roy consistently finished elementary school, high school, and college with flying colors. Aside from being able to graduate and securing a job as a teacher at the university, Roy was also able to patch things up with his dad, who finally supported him with his endeavors, as well as inspired and helped other less privileged youth to graduate in college.

The story of Roy is proof that regardless of how difficult our situation is, it is still possible for us to power through and rise above it. Although the people around us and our experiences have the ability to shape us, it is still up to us in the end to choose which path we will take. We may opt to be imprisoned by our situation or emancipate ourselves from it and pave a new future. And most importantly, it’s also a reminder, especially for the young people out there, to value education since it’s one of the treasures that can never be stolen nor taken away from us.

“Pantalan” (2016)

We’ve surely seen the best friends-turned-couples trope in a lot of movies and series over the years. However, it seems that we would never ever get tired of it, as the story of Jerome and Roselle, portrayed by Diego Loyzaga and Sofia Andres, is the second most watched episode. Or maybe it’s either many people were able to relate to them or there was just something magical about the onscreen partnership of the said Kapamilya love team.

Ever since becoming best friends when they were still in high school, Roselle and Jerome had been so inseparable, to the point that their close friends would tease them about their closeness. However, both of them were firm that they only see each other as best friends and that a romantic affair between them would be impossible, as attested by them getting into different relationships along the way.

Their bond got tested a number of times, most especially when they agreed to become a couple after realizing that, in the 14 years of their friendship, it was them who were meant for one another. But, in the end, they chose to listen to what their hearts had been telling them—that they would always be each other’s docks, or “pantalan,” no matter what happens.

“Damit” (2017)

Number of Views: 10,384,201

When life gets really, really tough, some of us tend to look for something motivating to watch. And one of them could be MMK’s “Damit” episode, which tackles the grit-to-greatness story of inspiring Filipina entrepreneur Hershey Hilado, remarkably portrayed by Ria Atayde. Not a lot of people know, but before she became the successful and esteemed woman that she is now, Hershey used to live a miserable life growing up in Iloilo.

With their single mom not being able to do her responsibilities, Hershey was forced to take matters into her hands to be able to feed her siblings. Their plight got worse when their grandpa—their remaining ally—died, which gave their mom more freedom to do everything she wanted to them. She sent her and her older siblings to Manila to work, with her ate being hired to become an entertainer and Hershey having to fake her age in order to land a job since she was still a minor at the time.

Even though she was already of legal age and was earning her own money, Hershey remained under the command of her domineering mom. She was left with no choice but to marry a rich yet abusive Korean man just because her mom liked it to happen, as well as to get into a relationship with an Australian man named Scott in her hopes of seizing a better opportunity in Australia and escaping her mom. There, she didn’t just live a relatively comfortable life but was also able to put up her garments business, to which Scott was initially supportive.

Their marriage might not have lasted, but Hershey was able to survive with the help of her friends who took her in, as well continue and even grow her business online, gaining more customers from Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Later on, she was able to build a home for her siblings and expand her fashion business here in the Philippines, which also created more employment opportunities for her kababayans.

Hershey’s journey reminded us that instead of dwelling on our circumstances, we should use the strength we’ve gained from our hardships to fuel us to free ourselves from our plight, as well as to reach the things we once thought were impossible.

“Mangga” (2018)

Number of views: 9,961,336

It was a case of love at first sight for couple Daisy (Janella Salvador) and Darling (Elmo Magalona), who met at a wedding where both of them were part of the entourage when they were kids. Initially, it was only Daisy who was head over heels Darling, but her mom advised her not to show much interest in him and ignore him, which she did until they became adults. And it indeed worked, as it was Darling who eventually chased after her, especially when both of them were already pursuing college in Manila.

Daisy’s fantasy of being her “asawa” or wife, came true when they became a couple a few years later. But that didn’t last long, as Darling had an illicit affair with another young woman from their barrio, which completely shattered Daisy’s heart. Darling tried to ask for her forgiveness and a second chance a year after she broke up with him, but Daisy remained firm in her decision not to give those to him. Even though Daisy had given her a hard time, Darling refused to easily give up on showing her how regretful he was of his mistake and regaining her broken trust on him again.

And all his efforts paid off as Daisy eventually agreed to give him a second chance and take a risk on their relationship again despite the objection of her mom. They got married and lived happily ever after with their kids.

Daisy and Darling’s love story is a reminder for us to never ever play with the feelings of other people, especially of the person with whom we promised to love and take care of with all our heart, because we would never know how great its impact would be. Besides, while it’s difficult to trust again after being betrayed, giving love a second shot could sometimes be worth it—just like what happened to them.

“Kidney” (2018)

While we often associate unconditional love with parents, it can also be present among siblings, which was demonstrated in the heartwarming story Sherwin and Love, portrayed by Sandino Martin and Bianca King in the “Kidney” episode.

Ever since they were kids, Love and Sherwin had been inseparable, for they were each other’s greatest ally and protector, with both of them having each other’s backs whenever one’s in trouble. They were able to prove their love for one another a number of times, most especially when Love got critically ill due to kidney failure, which required her to undergo a kidney transplant. Although his wife was initially against his decision to donate his kidney to his sister, Sherwin still went on with the procedure and came out successful.

Love went on to leave for another eight years, with their family ensuring to make every moment they had with her happy and memorable. He took care of her when she fell ill again until she took her last breath.

The story of Sherwin and Love was indeed a great testament to how unconditional love can also be present among siblings like them. We may sometimes have misunderstandings or fights with our brothers and/or sisters, which is normal in every family, but love, care, and understanding should always prevail.
