It’s not always that celebrities get to talk about their faith since the majority of the public are apparently more interested in their personal lives and/or the controversies and issues they’re involved in.

So, this Lenten season, we had some of our favorite Kapamilya stars impart how their belief in God has evolved over the years during their exclusive interviews , and we collated their responses in this feature.

Let us begin with “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” actress Gillian Vicencio, who shared that her faith continues to get stronger as time goes by, especially when she goes through hard-hitting trials, and it is only God whom she can hold on to. She said, “’Yon talaga ang nagpapa-strong ng paniniwala natin, ‘yong mga struggles natin sa buhay kasi we turn to Him all the time.”

It is also the trying times in her life that fortified Chie Filomeno’s faith. Those struggles have made her realize that the Lord has reasons for allowing things to happen, whether it’s heartbreak or the happiest moments of our lives. Besides, the ASAP Dance Siren is confident that He has better plans for us and is always there to protect us.

Her fellow ASAP Dance Siren Anji Salvacion felt that her faith has become stronger due to the experiences and hardships that she had gone through. God is able to prove how faithful He is to His promise that He would never abandon her in every step or decision that she took. Thus, she advised everyone to let the Lord accompany us in our journeys because life gets better and easier when we do it, just like what happened to her.

Kapamilya leading man Gerald Anderson, meanwhile, believes that as long as we have a grateful heart regardless of everything that has been going on in our lives, our faith will automatically be strengthened—no matter what our religion is. We may go through failures and obstacles in life, but he reminds us to still be thankful because those are where we’re going to learn more in life.

Aside from having Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla as a mom, being a singer has apparently been the path for Karylle ever since she was a kid for she used to be a choir member during her school girl days. Being able to sing liturgical songs, especially during masses, has indeed helped her build and strengthen her connection with God.

“That helps me pray. If it’s hard for me to pray, I always go back to [music]. It’s my habit to hear mass, it’s my habit to sing all the songs,” the “It’s Showtime” host related, then added, “This is something that is in my heart. Hindi nawawala ‘yong pananampalataya ko, ‘yong pagkapit ko sa faith ko kasi nando’n na siya sa puso ko.”

Since she grew up under the care and guidance of priests, Christian values and Roman Catholic traditions have been instilled in “Tawag ng Tanghalan The School Showdown” grand winner Carmelle Collado. Aside from serving in their church as a psalmist, she, along with her family, is able to show her faith in God by praying and attending Holy Mass every Sunday. Thus, she’s glad that her relationship with God continues to tighten and deepen.

Ken San Jose imparted that even though he’s been a believer of God all through his life, it was only around two to three years ago when he began to take his faith more seriously, as he was desperate to find answers for all the questions that were running through his head.

“During that time, I really searched for God, and I feel like He answered me. He not only revealed Himself to me at that time, but I [also] realized that He was with me talaga the whole time [and] throughout my whole life. So, hanggang ngayon, super strong na ‘yong faith ko talaga,” Ken related.

It was also his strong faith that kept “iWant ASAP” host Jeremy G through everything in life, such as that time when he had nobody by his side to be with him after his mom left for the United States post-pandemic. That took a toll on her mental well-being, yet he was able to eventually conquer it.

Meanwhile, growing in faith has also taught “Showtime Online U” host Sheena Belarmino to love herself deeper and become more understanding. She is reminded as well that God is always there and that He will never forsake her as long as she doesn’t step on other people in her pursuit of success.

For Kobie Brown, his devout Catholic mom has a strong influence on how he builds his relationship with God. He has developed the habit of praying before doing anything—from eating to working.

The fulfillment of her ambition of making it to showbiz, as well as the continuing flow of blessings into her life, has made “Pinoy Big Brother Gen 11” Big Winner Fyang Smith feel more the mercy and goodness of God to her, to which she’s utterly grateful for. Similarly, “PBB Gen 11” alum Jarren Garcia regards the 360-degree change in his life through PBB as the spark that ignited the evolution of his faith as well.

“PBB Gen 11” 4th Big Placer Kai Montinola has also felt the presence of the Lord throughout the ups and downs of life, which made her faith evolve drastically. She conveyed, “I’ve been through many phases where I believed and also doubted. But palaging pinapatunayan talaga ni Lord na He is there because I’m always guided and I’m very well-blessed by the Lord.”

Having her own family has made “Saving Grace: The Untold Story” actress Elisse Joson more connected to God, as she doesn’t turn to Him during trying times but also when life is steady or filled with so much happiness.

And lastly, Jodi Sta. Maria highly believes that her faith in God has evolved through His unwavering grace towards her everyday and His unparalleled patience as she continues her walk with Him.
