“Bro,” “G,” “Bossing”: Can you guess which Kapamilya seryes hail God and Jesus by these names?

Certainly, not a day passes by without us speaking to God, our Father, and/or his Son, Jesus Christ. And as we pray, we have our respective ways of calling to Them as we express our adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplications to them.

While we grew up hailing them as Papa God, Father God, Panginoon, Poong Maykapal, Jesus, or Jesus Christ, or other formal names in our prayers, there are four ABS-CBN series that used unique nicknames in addressing God in their narratives. And here they are:

May Bukas Pa and Huwag Kang Mangamba, “Bro”

Of course, who would forget the highly successful inspirational drama “May Bukas Pa”? Broadcast from 2009 to 2010, the teleserye indeed stirred viewers with the inspiring story of Santino, remarkably portrayed by then-child star Zaijian Jaranilla, and the many miracles he had done for the people of Bagong Pag-asa. But aside from using his healing hands to cure sick people with their physical, emotional, and mental illnesses, what never failed to amaze and amuse us were his heartwarming conversations with Jesus Christ, whom he fondly dubbed “Bro”.

More than a decade later, “Bro” was once again used to call Jesus Christ in the Christian drama series “Huwag Kang Mangamba,” topbilled by Andrea Brillantes and Francine Diaz, who played Joy and Mira. Just like Santino, the two girls, later on revealed to be long-lost sisters, could also see and talk to Jesus, who never failed to guide them in every decision that they made.

Oh My G, “G”

In 2015’s “Oh My G,” we then met Sophie Cepeda, a teenage girl impressively played by Janella Salvador, who totally struggled in life after both of her parents. This tragedy made her lose her faith in God, whom she fondly referred to as “G,” and harbor ill feelings against Him until He started to expose Himself to Sophie through different forms.

“G” would show up in front of Sophie without any warning and would talk to her to enlighten her on the problems and obstacles that she was facing. Since then, G became her true friend as she was able to establish a cordial connection with Him, as well as strengthen her faith in Him.

Pamilya Sagrado, “Bossing”

It may not be an inspirational series (since it’s more of action and drama), yet “Pamilya Sagrado” is still able to warm our hearts and inspire us with the unwavering faith of its characters, particularly one of the titular characters, Moises, played by promising actor Kyle Echarri. Whenever he was in the midst of troubles and uncertainties, he didn’t rely on his strength but rather called on to God, whom he tenderly hailed “Bossing”.

Moises is indeed a testament that even tough guys like him know how to pray and seek the divine guidance of “Bossing.” He’s also able to influence his loved ones to regard God the same way.

How about you, Kapamilya? How do you address God and/or Jesus Christ in your prayers?
