5 scorching harapan moments of Miranda and Ashley in “Saving Grace”

Usually, people from different generations tend to clash due to their differences, such as their perceptions on various things in life. And one good example is Miranda Valdez and Ashley Santillan, the characters compellingly portrayed by seasoned singer-actress Sharon Cuneta and promising actress Aya Fernandez, respectively, in the well-loved primetime drama “Saving Grace: The Untold Story.”  

Let us look back on five of their intense confrontation scenes that indeed added more spice and excitement to the show in this Friday 5 feature! 

Miranda, as ardent viewers know, is already considered a veteran in the field of journalism and television since she used to be a reporter before becoming the host of the public service program “Karamay,” which aims to reunite estranged families. On the other hand, Ashley is a budding TV host who seems to have it as her goal to dethrone Miranda from where she is rather than learning the ropes from her as a neophyte and establishing rapport with her as colleagues. 

Just on the very first day of Ashley as her co-host, she immediately got in the nerves of Miranda. Aside from the fact that she didn’t see the need for another person, not to mention young, to join her on the program that she’d been running for decades already, she also disliked Ashley’s “feeling close” attitude. The cups of coffee and snacks she gave away to everyone were not even enough to impress Miranda. 

Ashley further riled up Miranda when she advised her to look for another subject instead of focusing on the case of Sarah Banaag (Jennica Garcia) and her lost daughter, Grace (Zia Grace), since it’s already getting sensationalized. But rather than taking her opinions and suggestions, Miranda told her to just mind her own business and to not school her on what she has to do since between them, it’s her who is more knowledgeable with regard to this matter. As Ashley continued to assert that she and her team must consider changing their subject, Miranda advised her to attend her “Master Talk” for her to be gain new knowledge and subtly insulted her by saying that she doesn’t have the “instinct or guts to handle a real story.” 

On their next harapan, Ashley received more unsolicited words of wisdom from Miranda as she attempted to upset her by insinuating that she’s not that young anymore to continue doing her job. Miranda told her, “This industry isn’t just about youth. May tinatawag din tayong professionalism, integrity, at substance. At mayroon ding pakikisama sa kapwa nang may respeto.”

As Ashley continued to be rude to her, Miranda had already lost her patience with her and showed her a video in which she was caught being intimate with the owner of their media company, Mr. Galvez. This compelled her to give Ashley another piece of advice, which was, “Kung gagawa ka ng kalokohan, at least be discreet. Shortcuts may get you in the door, but hard work keeps you there…You always have to hone your skills. Expertise stays sharp for a very long time.”

She also warned Ashley about the possibility of Mr. Galvez having a new “flavor of the month” or apple of the eye, without her being able to prove herself yet. 

The following day, Ashley approached Miranda to clarify the real deal between her and Mr. Galvez, explaining that he’s just a family friend. Of course, Miranda didn’t believe it and left Ashley with another piece of advice, telling her, “Alam mo, kung naging mabuti ka lang sana sa lahat ng mga nakatrabaho mo, hindi mo aabutin ‘yan.”

Instead of humbling herself after that confrontation, Ashley was able to find a strong clapback on Miranda as a video of Sarah and Chito doing a happy dance went viral online, along with an AI-generated video of the three of them dancing, which Mr. Galvez showed to her. This led to the slew of bashing from netizens as they criticize the network for tolerating the misbehavior of her subject, who seemed to not genuinely care about her missing child. Since she’s already associated with them, Mr. Galvez asked her to fix this mess or else this would definitely take a toll on her program.
