With strings of movie and television projects and product endorsements in her resume, there’s definitely no doubt that Kim Chiu is one of the most luminous and most prominent stars not just in ABS-CBN but also in the entire local entertainment scene. 

At present, she’s not just working as one of the hosts of “It’s Showtime” and “Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Collab Edition,” but she also headlines Star Cinema’s first-ever film offering this 2025—the box-office hit romantic comedy flick “My Love Will Make You Disappear”—opposite her current loveteam partner Paulo Avelino.

However, prior to the immense stardom that she’s been savoring, those who got to follow her career right from the beginning would know that her journey in the industry started in 2006 when she joined “PBB Teen Edition 1,” in which she was eventually hailed the Big Winner. Since then, she has been blessed with a slew of media appearances, through which she’s able to showcase not just her enthralling chinita beauty, but also her skills in acting, singing, dancing, and hosting.

And one of the Kapamilya programs that both witnessed and shared her journey was “Tonight With Boy Abunda,” in which she made several guestings throughout its significant five-year run. As we join her in celebrating the success of her almost two-decade career, let us revisit some of her insightful and lighthearted interviews on the late-night talk show in this TWBA Toplist!

Let’s begin with that 2018 episode wherein the Chinita Princess reminisced on her experiences as an actor over the past decade. She told the King of Talk, “Siguro, I’m living my dream. Kasi pangarap ko talagang mapanood sa TV eh, makita ko ‘yong sarili ko sa TV. Masaya na ako doon. And hanggang ngayon, isang dekada na, napapanood ko pa rin ang sarili ko sa TV, which is I’m very happy.” 

Aside from being able to fulfill her dream of breaking into showbiz, she’s grateful as well to be able to provide for her family and herself, which makes her feel really blessed and lucky. She also opened up about the ups and downs that she went through in life, which transformed her to become a stronger person.

According to Kim, the highest point of her life was when she won as the Big Winner of “PBB Teen Edition 1” in 2006. The lowest, on the other hand, was the death of her beloved mother, and she was only present on the first and last night of her wake. While she has been open to talking about her family in recent years, she used to initially refrain from bringing them up in any interview since she believed that she was still too young to handle, comment on, or cope from the things they went through as a family at the time.

She may have succeeded in keeping family matters under wraps but not her love life, since apart from being famous herself, her two previous partners were also in showbiz since they were her loveteam partners, too. Thus, when asked by Tito Boy to face the golden mirror during her 2017 guesting, she implied that she was not keen on getting married yet after five years and advised herself, “Never stop learning, love yourself more, and take it easy.”

The loud and proud Cebuana then wasn’t able to help herself from getting emotional in her other TWBA interview in 2017, wherein she talked about her first solo movie, “The Ghost Bride.” She stated, “I’m very thankful [kasi] for how many years, hindi ko alam na this time will come. This is not my movie, this is Star Cinema’s movie, this is Direk Chito [Roño]’s movie.”

A day before turning 28 in 2018, Kim appeared on TWBA, wherein she and Tito Boy looked back on her 18th birthday. She reminisced on how super happy her heart was at the time because it was filled with so much love from family, friends, other loved ones, and supporters. Besides, she also imparted her dreams then, which included being able to help her siblings finish their education, to provide her family a home that they could call their own, and to serve her family as long as she could. 

Later in 2018, the multifaceted Kapamilya star was once again interviewed by the King of Talk for the third anniversary special of the talk show, in which one of the questions that she had to answer was, “How rich are you?” As expected, she refused to directly respond to it and simply uttered, “Sakto lang.”

She expounded, “Hindi ko inisip na makukuha ko ‘to. Never sumagi sa isip ko na kung ano ‘yong gusto ko, mabibili ko. Kaya sobrang thankful talaga ako.”

As Tito Boy expressed that he regards her as a “powerful young woman,” Kim said that she wanted to believe the same for herself. She related that for her to be strong and independent, there were forces that pushed her forward, which included her family, love life, friendships, and herself. And all of those, along with her experiences, had honed her to become who she is today.
