In the 10 years that he has been in the local entertainment scene, Christian Bables has already starred in a slew of teleseryes and movies through which he’s able to showcase his impressive versatility and skills as an actor.

And after taking on gay roles and characters who are at the protagonists’ side, he’s able to prove that he can also be an effective kontrabida, as seen in his portrayal of Chito Sumulong in the ABS-CBN Studios primetime series “Saving Grace: The Untold Story.” Ever since he first appeared on the show, he did nothing but rile viewers up with how cruel, abusive, and manipulative a stepfather he is to the titular character, Grace Banaag (Zia Grace), as well as a partner to Sarah (Jennica Garcia), Grace’s biological mother.

As we look forward to seeing whether or not he and Sarah are going to have a character development now that all eyes are on them following the sudden disappearance of Grace, let us first revisit the five scenes of Chito that displayed Christian’s impressive flair as an antagonist.

Let us start with that scene wherein he didn’t just berate Grace for leaving the stove open unattended that almost caused a fire in their house, but he also gave her a strong backhand slap after she explained to him what happened. As Sarah tried to stop him, he got mad at her as well and threatened to leave them.

He and Sarah then had an intense altercation after two teachers from Grace’s school, Teacher Patty (Lotlot Bustamante) and Teacher Anna (Julia Montes), paid them a visit to check on her situation at home. As Sarah seemed to pin the blame on him and asked him to be kinder towards Grace, Chito got incensed and reminded Sarah of all the “sacrifices” that he did for her and her daughter. Their heated discussion subsequently resulted in a physical altercation, with Chito almost hitting her after she slapped him for assaulting her.

Viewers were surely stunned by Christian’s performance in this particular scene wherein he scoffed at Grace by killing, cooking, and eating her cherished pet chicken Pipo, as his way of punishing her for allegedly telling her teachers that he and Sarah had been hurting her. The furious and devastated Grace confronted him and then bit him on his right arm as she got obviously agitated when he reiterated that he slaughtered Pipo and threatened to hurt her once she told others about their maltreatment of her.

With no trace of Grace to be found around, not to mention that a fisherman claimed that the young girl probably fell off the sea, Sarah couldn’t help but be distraught by the thought of her daughter getting drowned during the storm. But not Chito, who kept on asserting that Grace could be alive after he caught a sight of her at the bus station, which sparked his heated quarrel with Sarah, who he sarcastically told, “Eh ‘di congrats. Congrats, buhay ang anak mo!” He also warned her not to say anything to the authorities or else both of them would be imprisoned once they’re able to find Grace and she would impart to them what they’d been doing to her.

And lastly, instead of getting worried about Grace, Chito wished for her not to come back anymore due to the immense stress and trouble that she’s been causing them. Once she does, he assured to make her suffer again. So, in hopes of pacifying him, Sarah showed him the money that she got from donors who were touched by their story after her interview with talk show host Miranda Valdez (Sharon Cuneta). However, Chito got incensed anew as her TV exposure might cause more problem than help for them.

Is there still hope for Chito to have a change of heart? Let’s find out by not missing episode of “Saving Grace: The Untold Story,” weeknights after on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live (KOL), A2Z, and TV5.
