Sharon Cuneta has been in the entertainment industry for more than four decades already, starting out as a singer and recording artist at the young age of 12. She began acting in 1981 by starring in the classic film “Dear Heart,” which launched her film career. 

Since then, she has been juggling her commitments as a singer and movie star, performing in a slew of live shows, releasing music and albums, and topbilling a number of films. With the tremendous success she has attained in every aspect of her career, not to mention her continuous victory at the box office, she was eventually given the moniker “Megastar” by the press.

Let’s revisit her journey as a Kapamilya through this edition of Spotlight. 

Her achievements over the past years apparently paved the way for her to be given her well-deserved very own television show in 1986, the classic weekly musical variety program, “The Sharon Cuneta Show,” which aired on ABS-CBN from 1988 to 1997. 

After a yearlong hiatus from show business, she made a TV comeback in 1998 via the musical talk program “Sharon,” which first season ran for six years until 2004. She took another break that year and returned in 2006 with the second incarnation of the award-winning show, which concluded in 2010.

Fans of the Megastar didn’t have to wait for a long time for her return on television, as she was bestowed her own reality contest in 2010—the “Star Power: Sharon's Search for the Next Female Pop Superstar”—which she hosted alongside crooners Erik Santos and Christian Bautista. One of its contestants was Angeline Quinto, who was subsequently declared the grand champion by the end of the competition.  

Your Face Sounds Familiar

Five years after working in another network, the Megastar returned to ABS-CBN in 2015 and was tapped to be part of “The Jury” of the celebrity talent program “Your Face Sounds Familiar” alongside Jed Madela and Gary Valenciano. Through this show, she was able to further display her playful, comedic, and cheerful sides that are among her qualities that we like about her. The first season was won by Melai Cantiveros.

She and her two fellow judges reprised their roles in the second season that was aired three months after the first season ended, from September to December 2015. Denise Laurel dominated the second season of the regular edition.

In 2017, Sharon retained her seat in “The Jury” panel of “Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids.” She and Gary were joined that time by their fellow OPM icon Ogie Alcasid. It was Awra Briguela who was declared the winner of this edition’s inaugural season. 

Her journey as a “Your Face Sounds Familiar” judge continued in the second season of the “Kids” edition, which aired in 2018. TNT Boys was declared the champion by the end of the competition. 

The pandemic didn’t stop her from hustling and bringing joy to Kapamilya viewers as she went onboard anew as “The Jury” for the third season of the regular edition, which was won by Klarisse de Guzman. 

The Voice Kids Philippines

We then got to witness Sharon’s side not just as a magnificent judge but also as a hands-on and meticulous coach in the third season of “The Voice Kids Philippines” in 2016, joining OG coaches Lea Salonga and Bamboo Mañalac. Her young artist, Antonetthe Tismo, made it to the Final Rounds and was named the 1st runner-up.

The following year, she reprised her role in the inaugural season of “The Voice Teens Philippines” alongside Lea, Bamboo, and Sarah Geronimo. By the end of the contest, her protégé Jeremy Glinoga snagged 4th place.

FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano

And in 2021, 43 years after she began her showbiz career, Sharon finally made her teleserye acting debut via the long-running primetime series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.” She appeared in the fifth and final season and played the role of Aurora Guillermo, the long-lost love of President Oscar Hidalgo, portrayed by her former onscreen partner Rowell Santiago. This was also where she got to work for the first time with Julia Montes, who took on the character of Mara, the estranged daughter of Aurora and Oscar. 

Sharon got reunited with Julia in the melodrama series “Saving Grace,” which was initially released on Prime Video in November 2024 and will be aired across the television platforms of ABS-CBN beginning on March 3. She plays the role of Miranda Valdez, the host of the public service show “Karamay,” who pledges to help Sarah (Jennica Garcia) find her daughter, Grace, who unbeknown to them was abducted by her Teacher Anna (Julia).
