Aside from being two of the legendary icons of OPM, Ogie Alcasid and Regine Velasquez are also among the local celebrity couples we truly admire. It’s not only because they’re both tremendously talented and great in their chosen craft, but they are also a testament that it’s indeed still possible to have real, strong, long-lasting, and lovely romantic relationships, especially in the ever-evolving world of show business. 

Since both of them are well-known personalities, their personal lives, which include their beautiful marriage, have been an open book to the public through the years. However, while we’ve already discovered a lot about them as individuals and as a real-life musical pair, there are still things that we probably do not know yet regarding their almost 15 years of being husband and wife. 

And we’re able to find out about them via their appearances together on Magandang Buhay, a Kapamilya morning talk show that the “Asia’s Songbird” hosts alongside Momshie Jolina Magdangal-Escueta and Momshie Melai Cantinveros-Francisco, in which they enthusiastically talked about their love journey together. We got five clips of those and compiled them in this toplist! 

Let us begin with their first date at a restaurant, which was actually a group date since they were joined by other people close to them, including her personal manager. However, what was supposed to be a completely fun group date turned out horrifying when a cockroach suddenly hovered around them. While everyone got scared, Momshie Regine recalled how she calmly caught and killed the poor insect using her hand and a piece of tissue. 

As she seemingly expected Ogie to get turned off by what she just did, the singer-songwriter imparted that he just thought of it as “weird.” She once again surprised him with her weirdness when she scooped a goldfish out of the aquarium at their office, jesting that he took it as a sign that she’s indeed the one.

They went on to have dates with just the two of them, yet it wasn’t clear to Regine at first what their status were at the time since Ogie didn’t tell her anything. She also did not really ponder about it since she was so focused on her career, and they had not seen each other for a long time until both of them became part of a variety show. Despite being just friends then, Regine admitted that she tends to look for him on the set every Sunday since they would discuss a lot of gossip courtesy of him.

“Every Sunday, I looked forward to seeing him because he would make me laugh; that’s how it started. But back then pa, magkaibigan na talaga kami. We got even closer no’ng nag-work na kami together and somehow I’m always in his shows and he’s also in my shows,” she related. 

The two officially became a couple after he professed his love for her during one of their phone calls, and his defenses were down due to insobriety, which she accepted by crying happy tears. 

In their almost 15 years of marriage, Ogie and Regine have surely faced and overcome various challenges that put their bond and love to the test. And according to Ogie, one of those include the pesky odor inside their “Instagrammable” abode that they had to endure after Regine hired exterminators to eradicate the rats that were running around their house. They jested that that mess almost tore them apart, but they were able to get through it.

As they guested together on Magandang Buhay in 2021, the conversation turned a bit emotional as the couple was asked to describe one another. Ogie regarded his beloved as a “wonderful woman” and “a real kind person,” which made her almost teary-eyed. So, to lighten things up, they mentioned one hilarious livestream of them wherein he was seen heeding to every order and request of Regine while he was also busy with other things. 

It might only be funny for some, but for Regine, it was a great proof of Ogie’s unconditional and unwavering love for her. “My husband is wonderful. Parang hindi na ako makaka-meet ng taong kagaya nito,” she remarked, then turned to him, “Isa ka siguro sa mga mabait na taong nakilala ko sa buong buhay ko. Kasi ‘yong una, ‘yong tatay ko na saka ‘yong nanay ko. Tapos ikaw na. And then he serves me.”

And lastly, during his birthday celebration on the show in 2019, the momshie-hosts quizzed Ogie why he considers his wife as the biggest blessing in his life. While everyone who got to encounter her would probably say that she’s kind, generous, and polite, not a lot of people know that Regine is extra kinder as a wife. 

“Gagawin niya ang lahat dahil iniintindi niya ‘yong role niya, which is asawa ko siya. Mahirap ‘yon dahil syempre, si Regine siya e. Pero kapag nasa bahay kami, siya ang misis ko,” Ogie said and went on to affectionately tell her, “Ang galing mo do’n.”

Besides, it was also through the “Asia’s Songbird” that he was able to get the words of affirmation that he needed whenever his insecurities struck. She would always remind him that he’s the best for her, which instantly makes him feel rejuvenated and believe in himself again.

We may all have the same kind of marriage that Regine and Ogie share with each other. Sana all, right?
