In this modern society that we are a part of, it is believed that “chivalry is dead” already, as men are said to have grown less respectful towards women. While many women probably don’t mind much about not being able to receive the so-called “bare minimums,” what we are really more concerned about is how some men tend to take advantage of us, be it physically, mentally, or emotionally.

But for our mighty primetime hero Tanggol (Coco Martin) of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo,” gallantry is very much alive, for he’s apparently always ready to be a knight-in-shining-armor to women, especially those being harassed or taken advantage of by immoral men, as seen in the clips featured in this edition of Friday 5!

First off is that scene from the pilot week wherein he saved a young Muslim woman named Fatima (Sarah Edwards) from two hooligans who attacked her. He was able to single-handedly beat them up and accompanied her going home to make sure that she was safe.

As we all know, Mokang (Lovi Poe) is the greatest love of his life. Thus, when her other admirer, JP (Dino Imperial), along with their other classmates, tried to harass her while inside the school, Tanggol and his friends immediately came to her rescue. He was able to knock JP out and even almost shot him with the gun he brought, but Mokang stopped him in order to prevent further trouble.

While inside the correctional facility, Tanggol became friends with Bubbles (Ivana Alawi), a dependable trustee of Chief Dolores Espinas (Jaclyn Jose), who eventually became his partner-in-crime in the missions delegated to them by their jail administrators. So, when he witnessed her pesky wooer and fellow inmate Bong (Vandolph) harassing her, Tanggol didn't hesitate to save her even though he had to put himself in danger as he engaged in a bloody fisticuff with him, which subsequently led to Bong’s death.

However, it’s not only with women close to him that Tanggol is willing to become a knight-in-shining armor, for he also saved Katherine (Ara Davao), a scion of the affluent Caballero family who once went to Quiapo with his Lola Tindeng (Charo Santos). While shopping around, a snatcher suddenly grabbed her wallet and ran away, which Tanggol was able to apprehend. Katherine attempted to get to know at least his name and hand him some money as her way of thanking him, which Tanggol both refused.

And lastly, even though Madonna (Kim Domingo) is tough and skillful enough to fend for herself, Tanggol still had to save her from being killed by the police during an intense shootout. In the end, he was not only able to save her but also kill police officers, PLT. Mario Samonte (Jorel Ramirez) and PLT Luis Jacobe (Victor Silayan) and keep the coveted “Star of Venus” gem.

Did these chivalrous deeds of Tanggol get you smitten, too? Well, you better not miss an episode of “FPJ’s Batang Quiapo” for the chance to see more of it, weeknights at 8 PM, on Kapamilya Channel, Kapamilya Online Live, A2Z, and TV5!
