There was a time in the ‘90s when Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin didn’t just rule the love team scene—they became a whole universe. MarJo (though we didn’t call them that then, because portmanteaus weren’t a thing yet) had a grip on pop culture so tight, even today’s generation is still catching the feels from their movies, thanks to social media.

Marvin and Jolina were practically inseparable in kilig flicks back in the day. And if you were old enough to witness their reign, admit it—your idea of love was probably shaped by their movies. Whether it was the heartache of falling for your best friend ("Labs Kita… Okey Ka Lang?’ still hurts), the struggle of hiding a relationship from disapproving parents, or ignoring red flags in the name of love, their stories defined an era of romance.

Now, decades later, the iconic duo is making their big-screen comeback in the arena they once dominated—romance—through their upcoming Valentine’s movie, "Ex Ex Lovers."  But before they bring back the MarJo magic on February 12, they’re here first on Kapamilya Chat, taking us on a comforting trip as they react to their old movie clips. And they're bringing us bukingan and behind-the-scenes stories we never knew we needed.

"Flames" was such a hit youth-oriented drama anthology on ABS-CBN in the '90s that it eventually had to be made into a movie. And who better to bring it to the big screen than Marvin and Jolina? They shared top billing with the equally iconic love team of Claudine Barretto and Rico Yan in the two-episode film. Watching a clip from their time as Leslie and Butch—two high school students with opposite personalities who secretly fell for each other—brought back all the feels.

Marvin and Jolina were clearly enjoying themselves as they reminisced a specific confession scene from “FLAMES The Movie.” They recalled how dubbing was still a complicated process back then as everything had to be perfectly timed because the tape would be ruined if it wasn't in sync. Yes, tape, because digital editing wasn’t a thing yet!

Another fun trivia was that Jolina had to stand on apple boxes during the scene to balance out their height difference. And since she was walking in the scene—back when camera sliders weren’t commonly used—the production team lined up a series of apple boxes like a mini platform to keep her height consistent throughout the shot.

As part of the Kapamilya Chat challenge, they had to rate the reel they just watched. And for this, they're giving it a perfect 10. "Kasi galing na galing kami noon mga sarili namin. Ngayon 'di ko na mapanood kasi nahihiya ako," Marvin quipped. He even joked about giving it a 10.5 because he was that satisfied.

We bet that if there's one MarJo line living rent-free in your head, it would be: "Oh yes, kaibigan mo lang ako and that's all I ever was to you, Ned, your best friend… And I'm so stupid to make the biggest mistake of falling in love with my best friend." Yes, the "Labs Kita... Okey Ka Lang?" monologue that has defined best-friends-to-lovers heartbreak since 1998.

Our hearts couldn’t take it because Marvin and Jolina almost teared up while re-watching the clip. Aww! "Lines ko talaga 'yun sa'yo, eh," Marvin joked, trying to lighten the mood. And that’s when the bukingan started as Jolina playfully confessed, "Alam mo ba kung bakit grabe 'yung iyak ko no'n? 'Yun talaga ang nararamdaman ko no'n."

They then spilled a fun detail: that scene was actually a re-take! The first version felt like it was missing something, so after watching the full movie, the creatives decided to redo it with a stronger script. Since they couldn’t go back to Baguio, where most of the film was shot, they had to reshoot in Antipolo instead. What made this scene even more special was that the now-iconic lines were personally written on the way to the set by director Jerry Lopez Sineneng, who was so meticulous about making every word hit the right emotions for Ned and Bujoy. And clearly, he succeeded; the scene remains legendary, with even the new generation discovering and quoting it on social media today.

Jolina said they feel kilig and proud seeing how famous this scene still is. With that, Marvin rates it with  "lagpas pa sa 10!"

Marvin and Jolina’s acting chops were on full display when they shared the screen with the iconic tandem of Maricel Soriano and William Martinez in the 1998 film “Kung Ayaw Mo, Huwag Mo!”

Kapamilya Chat showed them a heartbreaking moment when Marvin’s character, Nico, had to say goodbye to Jolina’s Ditas because her older sister, Doris (Maricel), was totally against their relationship. Just as Ditas and Nico shared an emotional embrace, Doris caught them in the act. She was fuming despite Mike (William) trying to hold her back, so much so that she slapped Nico and even Ditas got one, too.

Jolina clutched Marvin’s arm while watching it, and then reacted, "Ang sarap na masampal ng isang Maricel Soriano," to which Marvin said in jest, "Hindi, 'pag tatlo."

Jolina described “Kung Ayaw Mo, Huwag Mo!” as a dream-come-true project because she had always looked up to Maricel for her dramatic prowess, comedic timing, and kikay personality. "Noong ginagawa ko ito, talagang ninanamnam ko 'yung every moment na nakikita ko si Ate Maria,” she looked back.

Marvin added, "Ang sarap kasi alam namin supposedly romantic-comedy ang pelikula pero parang natuto na rin kami umarte dahil sa kanila." To learn acting in a workshop is one thing, but to experience it firsthand with industry icons is another, "Unforgettable 'yung experience personally at sa pagiging actor. Alam mo 'yung sa sa sport, 'pag nakipaglaro ka sa sobrnag magaling para ka na rin gumagaling."

They're giving this scene a solid 100 stars. After the Rate and React Challenge, Jolina admitted that everything started flashing back, as if she was reliving those moments all over again. She even revealed that she still has some keepsakes from the film, like the black heart-shaped hair clip she wore in this very scene!

Did you feel that MarJo spark all over again, Kapamilya?
