Holy Week reminds us not only to take steps towards patching strained platonic relationships, but even more so our romantic ones. Love, after all, is no walk in the park. Beyond a feeling, love is more importantly a commitment that one upholds.

See how the protagonists of these five Star Cinema drama movies navigate the complexities of romantic relationships and choose to give love a chance anew.

‘One More Chance’

Love sours for college sweethearts Popoy (John Lloyd Cruz) and Basha (Bea Alonzo) when working at the same construction firm rears their personalities’ ugly heads. After the two part ways, Basha focuses on her career while Popoy moves on with a new girlfriend. When a construction project forces the two to work in close proximity again, Popoy and Basha realize that their wounds are far from healed.

‘A Second Chance’

Film director Cathy Garcia-Sampana returned to helm this 2015 sequel film, which follows Popoy and Basha’s trials after tying the knot. In this next chapter of their love story, “for better or worse” is tested as Popoy’s construction firm plummets and Basha struggles to get through to her husband. After their initial split in “One More Chance”, could Popoy and Basha’s marriage overcome this setback?

‘The Unmarried Wife’

Underneath Anne’s (Angelica Panganiban) seemingly picture-perfect marriage lies the ugly truth of her husband Geoff’s (Dingdong Dantes) infidelity. As Geoff continues to cheat on Anne, she lets the young Bryan (Paulo Avelino) into her heart. But when her relationships with both men begin to burden her family life, Anne must make the tough decision of choosing between romance and what is right by her son.

‘Love You to the Stars and Back’

This road trip movie sees two young souls seeking to escape their day-to-day lives. Grieving the loss of her mother, Mika (Julia Barretto) embarks on a journey in the hopes of getting abducted by aliens. She meets Caloy (Joshua Garcia) along the way, who keeps his cancer diagnosis a secret as he hitches a free ride from her. Bonded by being outcasts, Mika and Caloy realize there is more to life than their present struggles, thus opening their hearts to the possibilities of love.

‘All My Life’

A cruise paves the way for the easy-going Sam (Aga Muhlach) and the uptight Louie (Kristine Hermosa) to meet. Despite their differences, the two form a connection, which they must abandon when their cruise ends. As they settle back into their realities, Sam and Louie yearn for what could have been. That is, until fate draws them together once more. While they finally give their love a shot, the fatal effects of Sam’s heart disorder loom over.
