<p>Today, May 27, marks the first anniversary of the death of Original Pilipino Music (OPM) icon Freddie Aguilar, whose music became the soundtrack of revolution, struggle, love, and everyday Filipino life.</p><p>Known as “Ka Freddie,” Ferdinand Pascual Aguilar passed away in 2025 at the age of 72 due to multiple organ failure. In this particular song, Freddie captures the struggles of the marginalized Filipino society. Long before it became associated with the historic uprising, the song faced opposition during the Marcos era. </p><p>In a 2017 interview, the singer revealed the difficulties he encountered while trying to record the patriotic anthem, which was considered “subversive” at the time.
