Daesung, a member of the hitmaking K-pop boy band BIGBANG, released Tuesday his first solo extended play (EP).

Titled "D's Wave," the EP features eight tracks that put the spotlight on Daesung's powerful vocals and passionate delivery against rock-leaning instrumentals.

The song "Universe" serves as the lead single, with an accompanying music video released alongside the EP. The video includes scenes of Daesung performing against space-themed backdrops.

The 35-year-old singer is also set to embark on the "D's Wave" Asia tour, with stops across South Korea, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau and Japan from late April to August.

Born Kang Dae-sung, the singer debuted in 2006 as a member of BIGBANG,  one of South Korea's most commercially successful acts, known for hit singles like "Fantastic Baby" and "Bang Bang Bang."

In 2008, Daesung debuted as a soloist with the trot song "Look at Me, Gwisoon." However, his solo career was mostly focused in Japan.

Outside of music, he currently hosts the talk show "Zip Daesung," which has 1.17 million subscribers on YouTube.

Daesung's bandmate, G-Dragon, is set to visit the Philippines in May as part of his "Übermensch" world tour, promoting the album of the same name.
