For Indonesian hitmaker Pamungkas, songwriting is like being a photographer.

“As a songwriter, I capture moments through songs,” he said. “If I was a photographer, I would [take photos] of them. But as a songwriter, I would just save them in songs, the checkpoints in my life.”

Known for his global hit single “To the Bone,” Pamungkas made this statement in a virtual interview with the press on April 22, emphasizing the importance of drawing inspiration from personal experiences when writing songs.

Pamungkas believes that his experiences led him to where he is today as a musician.

“For me, [my experiences drove] me to be able to write like five albums in seven years, or maybe six studio albums and two live albums and one EP in just seven years,” he told entertainment reporters.

One of his purposes in writing songs is for him to have something to look back on in the future.

“One day I would just look back and smile about it or laugh about it,” he said.  “Even now, I listen to my [old] albums, and it makes me smile. It’s like looking at my old self.”

In the same interview, the Indonesian singer-songwriter stressed the importance of being “open” to opportunities.

“Our job as a songwriter, I think we should have to be very open,” he said. “To open yourself mentally and always keep the antenna open [because] you never really know what you will get.”

“I think that’s more or less the job of a songwriter, you're catching story every day and just experience more and see what you can write after you experienced things,” he added.

Pamungkas also acknowledged the importance of having a “clear mindset and positive approach throughout a day or throughout life.”

Pamungkas will once again treat his Filipino fans with performances at an event organized by GNN Productions. It will be held at 123 block, Mandala Park in Mandaluyong City on Saturday, April 26.

The event will put on display Southeast Asian music as he will be sharing the stage with Thai indie pop duo Scrubb who received international recognition for their contribution to the hit Boys Love (BL) show 2gether The Series.

In 2022, Pamungkas collaborated with Filipino Pop band Ben&Ben.
