Dondon Gregorio, bassist of the popular Filipino band December Avenue, has officially announced his departure from the group after 17 years.

The announcement was made through the band's official social media page, where Dondon shared the heartfelt reason behind his decision.

“Dearest friends and fans, after 17 years of being the bassist of December Avenue, I've decided to step away from the band to focus on my growing family,” the band’s bassist said.

He added, “It wasn't an easy decision, but I know it's time for me to be fully present for my wife and our kids”

Dondon expressed deep gratitude for the support he received throughout nearly two decades of playing with the band.

”Maraming salamat sa lahat ng sumuporta sa shows, sa messages, at sa pagmamahal niyo sa music namin. We've traveled to so many places and played countless shows. I'll always treasure those memories,” he expressed.

He ended his message by encouraging fans to continue supporting the band, whom he regards as family.

“Suportahan niyo pa rin ang December Avenue. They're not just my band-they're my brothers. And they've still got so much more to share with all of you. Love, Don,” he expressed.

In response, December Avenue released their own statement, expressing their full support for Dondon’s decision to prioritize his family.

“FAMILY COMES FIRST. Don isn't just our bassist - he's one of the founding members of December Avenue. For the past 17 years, we've shared so many memories on and off stage. 17 years of chasing our dreams, and travelling the world with our music,” the band said.

He went on: “Now, he's stepping into a new chapter in life as a full-time dad. And while it's tough to imagine playing without him beside us, we fully support and respect his decision to put his family first. That takes courage, and we're proud of him for it.”

The band also clarified that they have no intention of replacing Dondon and will continue to honor his legacy within the group.

“That said, we want to make it clear: we will not replace Don. Thank you, Don, for everything. For your music, your heart, and your friendship. We'll always be cheering you on. Love, December Avenue,” they wrote.

December Avenue, known for their emotional and chart-topping hits such as “Bulong,” “Sa Ngalan Ng Pag-ibig,” “Huling Sandali,” “Eroplanong Papel,” and “Kung ‘Di Rin Lang Ikaw,” was formed in 2007.

The band’s lineup includes Zel Bautista (vocals and acoustic guitar), Jem Manuel (lead guitar), Jet Danao (drums, percussion, backing vocals), Gelo Cruz (keyboard, backing vocals), and until recently, Dondon Gregorio (bassist, backing vocals).

In 2019, the band made history by topping the list of Most Streamed Artists in the Philippines on Spotify, becoming the first Filipino act to do so.

Their hit track “Kung ‘Di Rin Lang Ikaw,” part of the official soundtrack for the blockbuster film Hello, Love, Goodbye starring Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards, was named the Most Streamed Track in the country that same year.

Last year, December Avenue celebrated their 15th anniversary with a sold-out concert titled Sa Ilalim Ng Mga Bituin: December Avenue Concert, along with several international shows.
