Singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid shared his expertise with the future talents of the music industry as he gave a lecture on songwriting at the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication on Thursday, April 10. 

In a series of Instagram posts, Ogie shared his experience as a resource speaker, emphasizing that it was his way of “giving back” to his alma mater which molded him to become the artist that he is today.  

“I am always blessed by the kids’ enthusiasm and willingness to learn how I write music and inspired by their talents,” he expressed in his most recent post.  

With decades of experience as a thriving Original Pilipino Music (OPM) artist, Ogie also acknowledged the importance of learning from the younger generations.  

“The reason why I want to go around campuses is to reach out to younger people,” he said during his talk. “I also want to learn from you.”

Sharing some snaps from his talk, Ogie expressed in another post: “Dami ko natutunan din sa inyo UP!”

In a separate post, Ogie expressed his gratitude to the UP Mass Comm for the opportunity to share his knowledge and expertise.  

“Thank you UP college of media communication in coordination with the broadcasting association of CMC for having me today as your teacher,” he expressed. “Loved every minute of it!” 

Always supportive of her husband’s endeavors, Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid was also spotted in the video posted by Ogie.  

“[Thank you] mahal for watching me teach and for the support,” Ogie expressed, extending his gratitude to his wife for her presence during the lecture.  

Ogie was a student at UP Mass Comm, earning a degree in Broadcast Communication in 1993.

According to the It’s Showtime host, UP Mass Comm was the second campus he visited to give a lecture.

Ogie’s posts sparked positive comments from netizens who are encouraging him to continue the initiative.  

“This is wonderful, Ogie. [Please] do more of this. #UPNamingMahal,” one netizen wrote. 

Another netizen commented: “It’s always inspiring to see and hear different artists’ creative process.”

In the posted video, Ogie performed his newest single “Hanggang Dito Nalang Ba Tayo?” in front of the UP students.

Released last March 21, it was the only breakup song he wrote in the last two decades, following “Kung Mawawala Ka” in 2002.
