Kapamilya actor Elijah Canlas shared how differently people will see him once his upcoming EP is released. He explained the difference between him being an actor and being a musician in an interview with selected media at Basta Cafe in Quezon City earlier this month.

Elijah has been testing out the waters as a recording artist and has released three singles as of this writing.

The Senior High actor shared that music has been a big part of himself growing up as he recalled watching gigs of several Filipino rappers. This influenced him to write lyrics for fun which eventually turned out to be his way of letting his other side be known to people.

“Nahilig lang rin ako magsulat ng poetry sometimes. Eh rap is poetry. Natrtranspose ko siya into music. I guess, tinuloy ko nalang,” he recalled.

He added that this opened doors of opportunity for him as he was able to land a contract with his musical label, UMG Philippines.

When asked about his upcoming EP, Elijah shared that this was an introduction of himself. Although, he noted that he finished writing the songs–– all six of them–– two years ago. He maintained that he was a different Elijah two years ago but still wants everyone to know what he had prepared.

“The EP really is just the introduction of myself. First song was 'Kilala Kita' and the other songs were reflections of who I was. Kasi yung mga songs na 'to–– they’re about six songs–– two years in the making na siya mainly,” he added.

For him, being a musician gives him the avenue to be his authentic self as compared to acting. He admitted how in acting, one must wear different masks to portray the character well while with his songs, he is able to freely share his emotions.

“I’m just being really transparent kung ano yung nararamdaman ko. Kahit gaano pa kachildish, ka petty yung mga emotions na yun…”

“Pag acting, I’m wearing masks na I’m portraying different characters na hindi talaga nakikilala ng mga tao kung sino ako. Sa music ko siya nilalabas kasi no matter kahit andami ko pang presscon or mga interviews as an actor, hindi talaga makuha yung buong essence of who I am, my identity,” he continued.

The release date of Elijah’s upcoming EP has yet to be announced but fans could listen to his three singles on all digital streaming platforms.
