After more than two decades, OPM singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid is back with another heart-wrenching song about breakup: “Hanggang Dito Nalang Ba Tayo?”

In an Instagram reel, the It’s Showtime host shared a bit of trivia with his followers, saying the last painful song he wrote was 23 years ago.

“2002, nagsulat ako ng kanta na ang title ay ‘Kung Mawawala Ka’. Sa aking pagkakaalam, sa aking memory, ‘yan ang pinakahuling masakit na kantang nasulat ko tungkol sa paghihiwalay,” he said.

Appealing to their emotions, Ogie raised some questions for his followers and listeners to ponder on, as he invited them to stream his newly released single.

“Ikaw, ano bang nararamdaman mo ‘pag parang ‘yung relationship niyo medyo going south? Ano bang nararamdaman mo ‘pag gusto mo pang kumapit pero ‘yung partner mo parang ayaw na? Hanggang dito nalang ba tayo?,” he asked. “Isang tanong na siguro hindi mo alam kung gusto mong malaman ‘yung sagot sa tanong na ‘yun pero kailangan mong tanungin.”

“Ginagawa mo ba ‘yun dahil gusto mong pigilin yung sakit? Ginagawa mo ba ‘yun dahil mahal mo ‘yung tao? Ginagawa mo ba ‘yun dahil pagod ka na? Ginagawa mo ba ‘yun dahil nakikita mong wala nang pag-asa ang relasyon niyo?,” he continued.

Released on Friday, March 21, the newly released song made it to the Top 8 Trending in the Philippines, after receiving compliments from the netizens.

The singer-songwriter took to Instagram to express his gratitude to those who supported his new single.

“Walang patid na pasasalamat sa TP, sa pag-stream at sa mga magagandang comments ninyo sa bagong song ko. I am so grateful beyond words. I would love to hear your other comments here po. God bless you all!! Love you,” he wrote in the post.

Prior to its release, Ogie performed the song in a busking session in a mall in Makati City before a crowd.

“The journey of writing songs about love will never end,” he wrote in the caption of the video he posted on Instagram.

As part of his promotional strategy, Ogie also posted clips of his brief interviews with Kapamilya actors Jackie Gonzaga, Jarren Garcia, JM Ibarra, Fyang Smith, Rain Celmar, Kai Montinola and Yeng Constantino, asking them questions relevant to the song’s theme.

“Hanggang Dito Nalang Ba Tayo?”  is now available on music streaming platforms.
