The son of Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzalez, Andres Muhlach, has ventured into the music scene with his rendition of the classic Hotdog song, “Ikaw Ang Miss Universe Ng Buhay Ko.”

Now available on streaming platforms, his version reintroduces The Manila Sound to a new generation, reviving the iconic song that played a pivotal role in Filipino music history.

Originally released in the mid-'70s, “Ikaw Ang Miss Universe Ng Buhay Ko” was Hotdog’s breakthrough hit, setting the stage for The Manila Sound movement. At a time when Filipino music struggled to gain recognition amidst the dominance of Western music, the song helped pave the way for what would later be known as Original Pilipino Music (OPM).

The song’s inspiration traces back to the 1974 Miss Universe pageant, during which Hotdog’s chief lyricist, Dennis Garcia, conceived the idea. He aimed to celebrate Filipinas by highlighting that beauty transcends pageant standards. 

With this message, the song promotes self-love and challenges conventional beauty norms.

Andres’s rendition has already sparked excitement among fans. Viva Records hyped the release on their social media pages, sharing, “Ikaw nga talaga ang tunay na Miss Universe ni Andres 🥰🥹 Andres Muhlach’s ‘Ikaw Ang Miss Universe Ng Buhay ko’ is OUT NOW on all digital music platforms.”

A lyric video for the song is also available on Andres’s YouTube channel.

Andres currently stars in the hit Viva One series Ang Mutya ng Section E, portraying the character Mark Keifer Watson. 

Additionally, he is part of a sitcom alongside his parents and twin sister, Atasha Muhlach, for which he contributed to the official soundtrack.

In 2024, Andres was officially launched as an artist, following his twin sister, Atasha Muhlach, who made her debut a year prior. 

Speaking about his journey in an interview with PEP, he shared, “It's not an easy thing to do talaga. This job is not taken lightly,” 

Andres added, "The work you have to put in during the taping days, and even before the taping days, it's all preparation for talaga. How you do that is all different to each and every one of us."

Having both of their children enter the entertainment industry, Charlene Gonzalez reflected on their parenting approach in an interview with The Philippine Star.

“Aga and I, we raised the kids very independently. We respected their decisions. They did their end of the deal that when they reached a certain age, whatever they decide to do with their lives, we would support them,” Charlene said.

Aga Muhlach also shared valuable advice for his children as they navigate show business. In an interview with MJ Felipe for BRGY, he emphasized the importance of hard work

"Ang [advice] ko sa kanila is trabaho 'yan ha. Kung ano 'yung nakikita niyo sa akin na ngayon ito 'yung end result of hard work, so you have to go through that hard work," he said.

"When you see all of these parang glamorized life, the good life, lahat 'yan that's all because of hard work, tears, lahat 'yan, so dadaanan niyo 'yan," Aga added. "Just always be the kindest person you can be, 'yun lang ang [reminder] ko sa kanila."
