With 45 million views on YouTube and over 200 million streams on Spotify, Maki's song 'Dilaw' is undoubtedly a certified hit.

Maki shared in an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN that it was something he never really expected.

“Hindi ko siya in-expect but at the same time, pinangarap ko siya na mangyari. So I gave those encouraging words to myself,” he mentioned.

The singer-songwriter admitted to putting some constructive pressure on himself to keep his career moving forward, rather than staying stagnant.

“Parang kasi inisip nila ‘di ba, ‘pag nagkaroon ka ng hit song, what's next for you? So parang nakakakaba ‘yun eh. Pero at the same time, binibigay ko ‘yung pressure sa sarili ko, ‘yung healthy pressure siguro na magkaroon ng moment sa career ko na pataas siya. Hindi siya ‘yung stagnant, hindi siya ‘yung pababa. And I always try to do my best in everything,” Maki shared.

Some listeners may not know, but Maki actually performed an acoustic version of the song before its official release. He first showcased it at Cinema One's Open Air event in Boracay in 2024.

“Noong kinanta ko yung ‘Dilaw’ sa Baracay, wala pang sumasabay. Siyempre kasi hindi pa nila alam ‘yung song. And now that I get to sing sa mga iba't ibang lugar, na lahat ng tao sumasabay sa ‘Dilaw’, it's so so surreal,” Maki shared.

Maki shared how the fans who sing along with him inspire him to do more and be better.

“I'm just so grateful and sobrang thrilling kumbaga na hindi lang sila ‘yung excited kung ano pa ‘yung susunod. Pati ako. And na-fuel ako nung ganong moments,” he expressed.

In the meantime, Maki has just released the music video for his latest single 'Bughaw,' which will be featured on his upcoming album Kolorcoaster. The album will also include 'Dilaw' and another hit song, 'Namumula.'

The new gen hitmaker is also set to participate in the upcoming PhilPop x Himig Handog songwriting festival's finals night, which will take place on March 22, 2025, at 7 PM at the New Frontier Theater. Maki will be interpreting the song 'Kurba,' composed by Alvin Serito.
