Gary  V's  'Pure Energy: One More  Time' concert cut short due to  medical condition

“There’s a part of my brain that’s saying, wala na ‘to, Gary. Hindi mo kaya ‘to. Hindi mo kaya,” shared Gary Valenciano during the first day of Pure Energy: One More Time, as he allowed himself to be honest and vulnerable with his audience. “But my spirit wants to believe that kaya tayo nandito ngayon dahil sabi ni Lord, ito ang mangyayari. This is what’s going to happen.”There are those who are able to do great feats on pure adrenalin, and there are those who achieve the impossible on pure faith. Gary V’s Pure Energy: One More Time is proof of the latter. From start to finish, the first day of his show was a prayer and a testament of his unwavering faith in God. On December 20, 2024, the Big Dome filled up in anticipation of the first installment of Gary V’s Pure Energy: One More Time concert. As Gary’s daughter, Kiana V, opened the show, she also asked for prayers and disclosed that something was going on behind the scenes.“I would like to ask you guys for some prayers. There’s a situation happening backstage,” she admitted. The US-based songwriter entertained the crowd with her original songs such as “Keep It Secret” and “Sana”, among others.“We’re going to have a great night regardless. Can you please make some noise for my dad? I want him to hear you guys,” she said, leading the crowd in showing support for Gary through cheers. Gary came onstage with a burst of energy, literally jumping up from below the stage and starting off with songs of praise “Shout for Joy” and “That’s Why”. He also sang “Heto Na Naman”, another crowd favorite. While Gary’s vocals and dance moves remained on point, a glimpse at the IV plug in his hand was a visible sign that he wasn’t running on a hundred percent. After the first couple of songs, Gary was obviously a bit winded. “Before I go on, I just want to welcome you all tonight here to Pure Energy: One More Time,” said Gary to the audience, as a medic came onstage to help him out. “I know that some of you noticed that in my hand I have this thing that was plugged in, and that’s because I know many have been getting sick lately,” he shared. “Kasama na ako sa listahan na ‘yun.”He went on to share that a few of his guest artists were also under the weather, such as Ogie Alcasid, Maymay Entrata, and Gab Valenciano. Gary admitted that, prior to coming onstage, he was already feeling ill himself. “I have never faced this kind of situation before, where wala na akong ginawa kundi mag-throw up lang sa likod. And so I got dehydrated and they had to rehydrate me,” he disclosed. Gary also bared his feelings to the audience, allowing himself to be very honest about what he was going through. “I’ll be very vulnerable with all of you ha. Anyway, you guys are here now,” he began, admitting that he came to a point where he thought he wasn’t going to be able to push through with the concert. Despite his apprehensions, Gary chose to trust and have faith that God will see him through.  “[God] knew I was going to have a tough time tonight, and I’m expecting nothing less than for Him to deliver upon His promises. Dahil kahit kailan naman, hindi Niya ako iniwan na nag-iisa. He’s never done that, and I don’t think tonight’s going to be the first night that He does this,” he said. Yet, Gary also knew that he needed to be mindful of what plans God had for him, regardless of whether or not they aligned with his original plan for the show. “However, if at some point in time I also feel Him saying, ‘Gary, this is the first time your concert’s going to be like this, where you won’t be able to finish it but you’ll still be able to speak into people’s hearts, do as I bid you.’ And I’m going to do that,” Gary said. Gary’s concert marks his 40 years in the industry, and he went back to his early years by singing “‘Di  Na Natuto”. He was later joined onstage by OPM boy group BGYO in singing “[Everybody] Get Down”, followed by “Favor of the Lord” with an ensemble of artists. He slowed things down with a heartfelt “Natutulog Ba Ang Diyos”. “I’m glad I get to sing this song now because I really need to hear this message. It’s a song na gusto kong kantahin para sa lahat na hanggang ngayon ay medyo nabibigyan ng pag-asa ng kantang ito,” he said.Seven songs into the concert, Gary had to admit that he was truly struggling through the show. With flagging energy, he had to take frequent water breaks and take a seat while still performing. “You don’t mind kung paminsan-minsan I take some time off and I just sit down?”, Gary asked the crowd. After a while, he admitted that he was having a tough time continuing with the show. “Okay. Ladies and gentlemen, I am really struggling up here. I’m not well,” he said. “I don’t know if I can finish this show.” “But what I want to do is that I want to do the songs that I know can speak into your hearts,” he added. “It breaks my heart to know that we have prepared so much for all of you, but the body is saying: ‘Gary, be cautious. You have many more years to go.’”He requested a change of plans, asking his son and concert director Paolo Valenciano to switch to a water effect as his backdrop.“I think I’m gonna need some refreshing. At bagay na bagay ang kantang ito sa kung ano ang pinagdadaanan ko ngayon,” Gary said, before singing the heart-wrenching “Warrior is a Child”.There was no dry eye in the crowd, as the audience felt Gary’s struggle through the last couple of songs. They served as a sincere prayer and a testimony of his hope and faith. “I’m gonna give you one more song,” he said, apologizing to the audience especially those who flew in for the holidays, that he had to cut his concert short. “There are things sometimes that happen in our lives we’ll never even understand why, but in all things kasi God works for the good of those who love Him and are called. He wasn’t sure he could do this concert. The doctors were backstage and he had an IV… and he said he wants to do it!” <div><img src="https://od2-image-api.abs-cbn.com/prod/editorImage/17347207282521734713137777.png" class="fr-fic fr-dib"/></div>She later added, “Don’t worry guys. Gary is ok… just dehydrated. He vomited about 8 times today. But am here with him and he’s just weak. A Type 1 diabetic goes through serious medical issues and we couldn’t afford what we call diabetic ketoacidosis so we are making sure he balances everything in a while. To the fans… thank you ! God is good. Good vitals, alive, strong heart and just a tad bit dehydrated!!! Blood pressure is normal so is blood sugar. God is good!!!!”, she reported.She also included a video of Gary assuring his fans that he was on the way to recovery. “Hey, guys, I’m getting better. Good people [are] taking care of me. I’ll be okay, don’t worry.
