In an interview on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the singer shared: "There was a big debate [about the album title]. I have a song called the 'Number One Girl' so that was initially the rough idea, like maybe we would call it 'Number One Girl.'"

Bruno then encouraged her to call the album Rosie. "But then, so like Bruno actually tried really hard to convince me because Rosie was one of the options, he's like, 'It has to be Rosie because your friends and family call you Rosie.'"

"I remember last year as our yearlong tour (BLACKPINK's Born Pink) ended, I found myself in a session out here in Los Angeles. That led on to a year of walking in and out of the studio, writing songs with songwriters and producers I’d met for the first time, trying to figure out the next chapter in my career," she recounted.
