(UPDATE) Hitmaking K-pop girl group NewJeans said late Thursday they are parting ways with their label, ADOR, the latest development in the ongoing dispute between the act's former boss and parent company HYBE.

The group's five members—Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein—called for an emergency press conference in Seoul, where they announced the termination of their contracts from the HYBE subsidiary, which will take effect at midnight on Friday.

The press conference notably coincided with the final day of the 14-day period the girls had set for ADOR to respond to a list of their demands, which had been previously sent to the agency.

"The exclusive contract between NewJeans and ADOR will be terminated as of November 29 at 12 a.m. KST," Minji said in the press conference, as quoted by K-pop news website Soompi.

"We are tired of HYBE's insincere attitude and felt once again that they have no desire to listen to our requests," Minji said.

Danielle acknowledged that they might no longer be able to use their group name once they leave the company. "However, that doesn't mean that we are giving up on the name at all and we will continue to fight for NewJeans," she said.

"Regardless of our name, just remember that NewJeans never dies," she added.

Danielle said the group hopes to release new music "as soon as possible" and have the opportunity to meet their fans.

The move is the latest chapter in the months-long conflict between Min Hee-jin, the producer behind NewJeans who previously headed ADOR, and the label's parent company HYBE.

The saga began in April when HYBE launched an audit of subsidiary ADOR, accusing Min of orchestrating a plan to break away from the parent company.

Min has denied HYBE's allegations, claiming that tensions with the entertainment giant arose after she accused another sub-label of replicating her star-making formula for a competing girl group.

Throughout the dispute, the NewJeans members have been supportive of Min, who is regarded as one of the most successful producers in K-pop, having worked with other big-name acts such as Girls' Generation, EXO and SHINee.

After their surprise debut in 2022, NewJeans quickly rose to prominence with a sound inspired by 1990s and 2000s pop, R&B, and club music. Their notable songs include "Attention," "Ditto," and "Super Shy."
