Director Andoy Ranay reveals kissing scene of JaDine in 'Diary ng Panget' was not part of original script

<p>Director Andoy Ranay shared that James Reid and Nadine Lustre&#x27;s kissing scene in their launching movie <em>Diary ng Panget </em>was not part of the script.</p><p>In an interview on the <em>Ang Walang Kwentang Podcast</em>, Andoy recalled the moment the film was offered to him to direct. </p><p>&quot;Sabi ni Boss Vic (del Rosario), kailangan ko raw i-launch &#x27;yung si James Reid tsaka si Nadine as the newest love team ng Viva na parang dapat Sharon-Gabby. Sabi ko, &#x27;Ang tall order nung Sharon-Gabby. Sandali naman. Maghinay-hinay tayo boss Vic.&#x27; [Sabi niya], &#x27;Ay hindi direk, kailangan kasi may mga bago na ngayon na lumalabas.&#x27; Sabi ko, &#x27;Okay sige,&#x27;&quot; he recounted. </p><div><iframe width="795" height="447" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZbkOW7Ka2oc" title="Why You Should Watch Diary ng Panget" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></div><p>Andoy then revealed that he thought of a kissing scene for James and Nadine in order to offer something new to the audience that the other love teams were not doing at that time.</p><p>&quot;So ginawa natin &#x27;yung <em>Diary ng Panget.</em> May isang scene dun, I don&#x27;t know kung naaalala niyo pa, &#x27;yung maghahalikan &#x27;yung dalawa sa may flagpole. Wala naman talaga &#x27;yun sa original, dapat &#x27;yun [magkaharap] lang sila tapos cut,&quot; he shared. &quot;Tapos sabi ko na ano ba ang hindi ginagawa ng love teams ngayon sa unang pelikula? Ay maglaplapan.&quot; </p><p>The director then asked for permission from James and Nadine for the said scene. &quot;Tinanong ko naman &#x27;yung dalawa, &#x27;Okay lang ba kayong mag-kiss diyan sa eksenang &#x27;yan? &#x27;Yung talagang kiss ha, &#x27;yung todong kiss,&#x27;&quot; he recalled. </p><p>Both lead stars agreed to do the kissing scene.  </p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://www.abs-cbn.com/2024/9/19/is-james-reid-open-to-a-jadine-comeback-1005"><strong>Why You Should Watch Diary ng Panget</strong></a></div><div><br/></div><p>Andoy then assured Nadine&#x27;s mom, Myraquel Lustre, who was also present on the set, that the kissing scene was integral in the movie .&quot;Pagtingin kong ganun, nandun&#x27; yung nanay ni Nadine... [Tanong niya], &#x27;Direk, totoo ba?&#x27; [Sagot ko], &#x27;Ay yes mommy, ilo-launch sila, ikakasikat nila &#x27;to,&quot; he said.</p><p>Explaining further his decision to include the kissing scene, he pointed out: &quot;&#x27;Yung JaDine na branding that time, kailangan something different... Parang iba silang love team eh, hindi tweetums.&quot;</p><p><em>Diary ng Panget</em> was a Filipino romance movie based on the Wattpad by Denny R. of the same title.</p><p>The film became one of the top ten highest-grossing Filipino films of 2014.</p>
