"The best surprise on a 626 day," one fan commented.

The live action Lilo & Stitch released in May has grossed roughly $923 million worldwide to date.

“The love that people have for Lilo & Stitch continues to grow, and the goal with this new retelling was for audiences to be able to enjoy these characters on the big screen again and hopefully have just as much fun watching it as we had making it,” Disney Entertainment co-chairman Alan Bergman said in May.

Lilo & Stitch "is the wildly funny and touching story of a lonely Hawaiian girl and the fugitive alien who helps to mend her broken family," as per Disney.

Newcomer Maia Kealoha stars as Lilo, bringing the beloved character to life in her first major film role.

In a June 2024 interview with PEOPLE, Maia shared her reaction to landing the role. "When I found out I was going to be Lilo, my jaw literally dropped and I couldn't even believe it," she recounted.

The actress went on: "I rung my dad and I said, 'I did it! I'm Lilo! I'm Lilo!' And then they grabbed me and we jumped up and down. I was so excited!"

When asked how she relates to Lilo, Kealoha pointed out their shared love for creativity. "I would say we really love crafts. In terms of our rooms, she has a lot of toys in her room and I don't really have toys. I would say I'm a crafty girl," she relayed.

The film is directed by Dean Fleischer Camp. Aside from Maia, it also stars Sydney Elizebeth Agudong, Billy Magnussen, Tia Carrere, and Hannah Waddingham, among others.

The animated Lilo & Stitch feature was released in 2002.
