From start to finish, Regal Entertainment’s new psychological horror film Untold promises to deliver more than just the usual predictable Pinoy jump scares as it offers a unexpectedly fresh storyline to an otherwise standard movie genre. Clocking in at just under two hours, here’s our five reasons even non-horror movie fans can and will enjoy this thrilling film.
1. It gives you an inside look at what goes on in the broadcasting world
With some scenes shot inside and outside the ABS-CBN compound, fans of the Kapamilya network and those familiar with their shows will recognize the neighborhood. To those still yet unfamiliar, the film reads like an informal virtual tour of the kapamilya network, from the archives section to the office areas where Jodi Sta. Maria works as star journalist Vivian Vera who is both admired and loathed by her junior journalist Louise, played by Kaori Oinuma.

2. Regal Films outdoes itself with their first horror film offering for the year
Whether or not you’re a Shake, Rattle, & Roll fan, be prepared to be impressed with the level of fear you can experience once you immerse yourself in Untold’s gripping storyline. Fans of Kris Aquino’s horror flicks with director Chito Roño like Sukob, Feng Shui, and Feng Shui 2 will definitely enjoy Untold’s style of storytelling.

3. Director Derick Cabrido proves his love for horror once again in "Untold"
As the auteur behind the 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival horror entry Mallari which served as Piolo Pascual’s (who plays the Philippines’ first documented serial killer Father Juan Severino Mallari), hugely successful horror debut, director Derick Cabrido impresses once again in the genre with his latest film. In a previous interview with ABS-CBN, the talented director shared, “A memorable horror story will always be rooted in unspeakable might of love,” and the same once again holds true with Jodi Sta. Maria’s character as she experiences the most terrifying sights, all in the name of love.

4. The cast is a mixed bag of impressive talent and experience
Apart from the anchor of the film which is lead actress Jodi Sta. Maria, the cast list of Untold includes more veteran actors like Gloria Diaz, Mylene Dizon, and Joem Bascon to newer actors like Juan Karlos Labajo, Lianne Valentin, Kaori Oinuma, and Sarah Edwards. The disparity in their experience works, with the constant sprinkling of Gen Z slang to boomer jokes in between the scary scenes. Musical artist and reluctant actor Juan Karlos is one again a revelation here, building an unforced yet believable kind chemistry with the apple of his eye.

5. Jodi Sta. Maria proves that her acting is impressive, no matter the genre

Whether you first loved her as the lovable Maya in the daytime soap Be Careful With Your Heart, teleseryes like Pangako Sa ‘Yo, The Broken Marriage Vow, and most recently in Lavender Fields, Jodi fully immerses herself in each role she takes on 100%.
