Kapamilya star Maymay Entrata took to social media to express her gratitude after her new series, Happy Crush, became a hit on the streaming platform Netflix.

On her Instagram page, Maymay thanked the viewers after her new series soared to the top of Netflix Philippines’ Top 10 TV Shows list.

“TOP 1 ang HAPPY CRUSH sa NETFLIX today! 🥹🤍 Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng nanuod, natuwa, kinilig at napa-throwback sa makulay na komunidad ng Barrio Lourdes,” Maymay wrote.

Happy Crush marks Maymay’s acting comeback project after her 2021 film Princess DayaReese and her last series Click, Like, Share. The show premiered on Netflix on April 24.

Maymay also extended her appreciation to the production team and co-stars, calling the experience one of the most enjoyable projects she has worked on.

“To my Happy Crush Family, Congratulations sa ating lahat! Sobrang nagpapasalamat ako, Direk sa tiwala at sa napakagandang materyal na ibinahagi ninyo sa amin, ang Happy Crush,” she added.

Maymay went on: “Isa itong proyektong hindi lang maganda sa script kundi ramdam na ramdam ang puso at saya habang ginagawa namin po ito 😭.”

She also gave a heartfelt shoutout to her fellow lead stars Kelvin Miranda, Zach Castañeda, and Andrei Miguel, along with the entire cast and crew.

“Lubos din ang pasasalamat ko sa lahat ng aktor, aktres, at bawat miyembro ng production team. Kayo lang naman ang pinaka-magaan at pinakamasayang team na nakatrabaho ko (WALANG ECHOS),” Maymay continued.

Maymay even hinted at a possible second season, saying, “Sa muli po nating pagkikita (EHEM) #HappyCrushNetflix”

Happy Crush follows the story of Carla, a celebrity who returns to her hometown after her mother’s death. As she reconnects with her past, she reflects on her high school years and her first love.

Maymay plays Carla, with Kelvin Miranda as Migs, Zach Castañeda as Ayon, and Andrei Miguel as Snow. The series is directed by Carlo Enciso Catu.

On his social media page, Direk Carlo shared how the series had been years in the making. He first pitched Happy Crush in early 2020, but it wasn’t selected at the time. Years later, he received a surprise call from producer Bianca Balbuena saying they finally found backing for the project.

The character Carla was originally imagined as “a 15-year-old girl who firmly believes she will end up with her ultimate crush no matter what.”

The setting, Barrio Lourdes, was inspired by a real community in Angeles, Pampanga, where Carlo and his sister, who co-wrote the series, grew up.

“Naging madali ang proseso naming dalawa dahil na rin siguro, pareho kaming lumaki sa totoong Barrio Lourdes, sa may Angeles, sa Pampanga. Which became the main inspiration of this project. Yung panahon na parang ang bagal lang ng galaw ng mundo. Yung panahon na ngiti lang ni crush, ayos na ang lahat,” he said.

Despite limited budget and production time, Carlo emphasized that the project was powered by pure heart and passion.

“Wala kaming maraming-maraming budget, wala kaming maraming-maraming days to shoot, at wala rin kaming maraming-maraming ways to sell and promote this passion project. Pero one thing is for sure, maraming-marami kaming pusong inilagay sa series na ito, kasama ang lahat ng mga nakasama namin sa biyahe ng Happy Crush,” he expressed.
