Watch these foreign films this Holy Week

As the Lent season nears its end, this is the perfect time to do some self-reflection and soul searching during Holy Week. While there are many Christian films that are being shown on television during this time, here are several foreign films that you could spend your time watching.  

Some of these films are available on several streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and Prime, among others. 

Doubt (2008)

This American drama film stars award-winning actress Meryl Streep who plays the role of Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the parish school principal. The film revolves around the principal who questions the priest’s (played by Philip Seymour Hoffman) vague relationship with a young student.  

Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)

This 1973 classic is based on the concept album written by Tim Rice and composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Despite several religious groups against the film, this was a hit at the box office–– earning as much as $24.5 million.

The Prince of Egypt (1998)

This animated film became a cult classic as it narrated the life of Moses–– from being part of the royal family in Egypt to becoming a follower of God. The film takes us back to Egypt and how the faith of Moses is truly challenged as he makes his own decisions.

Bruce Almighty (2003)

Taking a break doesn’t mean everything has to be serious. With Bruce Almighty, the film takes on its own version of God as man with Bruce Nolan (played by Jim Carey) at the forefront of it.  

The Shack (2017)

Last on this list is a relatively newer film–– The Shack tells the story of a father who suffered from a family tragedy. Mackenzie "Mack" Phillips (played by Sam Worthington) receives an invitation to visit a shack in the forest where he experiences a spiritual journey.
